taowulf Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 It all came to a sudden end, and I have officially quit. I know it may sound silly, but after a management change in the three levels of management above me, they decided to get on me for my personality (my view, in theirs it was my behavior that was unacceptable). This change was rather sudden and how it was done insulted me greatly. It makes me feel better than the feedback I have gotten from the people than worked with me for most of the last 10 and a half years has been positive. I did make one mistake in how I walked out, but I was furious and it was probably best so that I did not escalate the situation. But I do feel bad about it. I have already applied for one new job and will do more next week before spending some time with my son the week after. He flies in from Dallas on the 15th. I have always been a rather loud person, but I tend to be forthright in my honest appraisal of how I see things, and I tend to get a little wound up when there is something I feel strongly about. It translates into volume.
suedenim Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Good for you standing up for yourself. It always surprises me how management seem to think that they own your arse a if you're some kind of machine. Good luck with the job hunting plus you get all that extra quality time with your son as I've yet to meet anyone that's said "I wished I'd spent more time at work"

taowulf Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 lol sounds like Angry Even though I may not always agree 100% with what you say (or rant), I respect you to the gills for having the balls to say what is on your mind. To me, honesty is the best possible trait in anyone. Not just honestly, but having the fortitude to not hide behind "social niceties" just to keep the peace. Thanks for the well wishes.

To me, honesty is the best possible trait in anyone. Not just honestly, but having the fortitude to not hide behind "social niceties" just to keep the peace. I don't need anyone to agree with anything I say. I just respect those that will stand up to someone and tell it how it really is, like you say, without the social niceties. If the truth hurts someone's feelings, too xxxxing bad, because the truth needs to be told. When you are put into a position that is extremely uncomfortable, you have to be able to do something about it other than take up the butt. Jobs are important, but not as important as how you view yourself, and when a job makes you out to be the bad guy, asks you to lie, etc, it's up to you to make a stand or not. Those who don't take a stand will always take it up the butt in a very ugly way. Those who do take a stand might take a hit (especially financially), but you can at least look at yourself in the mirror and have the respect you KNOW you deserve for being honest. So even if we don't agree, know that I have the utmost respect for guys like you who refuse to continously take it up the rear (especially from corporate manager dummies)

In the work place, bobbleheads and yes men do nothing to improve a business. A dissenting voice is needed to bring reason to the setting and act as a brake for unrestrained change just for the sake of change. Or perhaps to add as an impetus FOR change when it is needed. Of course, that is applicable to home life, the political sphere and many more parts of what constitutes "life" in the modern world. HarryTaco Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 TaoWulf, I feel for ya Man. Been on both sides of the fence in my days. You ARE absolutely right about being honest and having the cojones to say something about it. Unfortunately, that doesnt always translate out to the happy ending in the business world. My take is that the larger the company the more chances you take being out-spoken, and it doesnt make any difference whether you are wrong or right. It scares people sometimes and those people might just have the power to get rid of things that scare them. Anyway, you seem like a person who wont have much trouble with employment. Hope you get the dream job hehe. Keep us Posted.
Guest Blooz1 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Good on ya, TaoWulf! You're a man after me own heart! I was "laid off" from my last job after being on sick leave for 6 months by my smarmy boss - actually, he found a bobble-head to take my place! I was always too honest for his taste, but that's life, I guess! Have a good time with your son, and good luck with the job search!
