nghisus Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Hey guys I've been having an issue with taskbar freezing up randomly. It's kind of odd because I prime stabled my system for about 6-8 hours not too long ago. I've reverted back to stock to see if it's my overclock. In the meantime could someone take a look at my hijackthis log to see if I'm bugged? wevsspot Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 You could probably shut down Windows Security Center, jushed.exe (java update) and Shareaza.exe You definitely have some un-necessary tasks running that MIGHT be freezing up your taskbar. If it were my rig and I were running behind a router I'd definitely stop and remove the following from my startup list; aawservice.exe jusched.exe wscntfy.exe wmplayer.exe Shareaza.exe Have you ran Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D lately? If so, did you let those apps clean up your rig? What were the results of your last virus scan? When was the last time you cleaned up your hard drive, removed temp files, internet history files, cookies etc? When was the last time you defragged your hard drive? Depending on the age of your Windows installation, it might also be a good time for some registry cleanup using a third party application like Registry Mechanic. Use the Windows MSCONFIG utility and post up every app that is loading at startup.
nghisus Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Fairly new install considering I always reinstall OS if I get a new mobo. I ran spybot, ad-aware, and avg in safe mode and they didn't find anything. All the programs you listed I've had freezes without shareaza running, and avg, not running. wevsspot Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I really don't see anything else. You might visit BV's Windows Services List and consider disabling or at least putting to "manual" some of the services he mentions. Alternatively, download and watch A_G's Windows tweaking guide. Maybe that will help.
suedenim Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Perhaps this might help http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2007/0...-in-windows-xp/ I also get freezes at work because 1) I over-estimate the P4's capabilities at least 10 times a day; 2) Overly aggressive AV. I think it scans EVERY file accessed. Not sure how good the AV is but using Process Monitor from sysinternals shows a LOT of DLL's etc loaded for most apps. nghisus Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Ok, so I went back to stock settings and it went away, so, I'm slowly redoing my oc now. Going .2Ghz at a time and priming for at least 6 hours after each bump. It may take me a week to get back over 3.4 but I don't care anymore. Might as well go slow and steady not worry about it later. wevsspot Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 It may take me a week to get back over 3.4 but I don't care anymore. Might as well go slow and steady not worry about it later. Sounds like a solid plan.
nghisus Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Ok, so I primed it stable for 8 hours at 3.2Ghz. But when I stopped prime and started doing stuff, the taskbar froze up. Not sure what to make of it, so I bumped the NB voltage and SB voltage a bit. I am thoroughly flumoxed at this point and I'm one step away from just reinstalling windows. SpeedEuphoria Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 sounds like either a bugged SP3 or messed up XP. I would do a reinstall and if going for sp3 get the new 3311 build
wevsspot Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I guess I'm thoroughly perplexed at this point also. But it has to have something to do with your overclock settings since the problem disappears at stock clock and voltage settings right? At least that's what I think I'm reading. nghisus Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Let's see, so I've bumped the nb voltages a bit and followed some of what suedenim linked me too. It seems to have disappeared. speede, i do have the latest build for sp3 and it was doing that before I put sp3 on so, probably not the culprit. So anyway, I'm at 3.2, been this way for a few days and it hasn't crashed out so I'm going to bump it up to 3.4 tonight and see what happens. I have my exit exams for grad school here in a few weeks so I'm trying to focus on studying instead of fun stuff. Anyway, thanks for the help yall
