jtplayte Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Hi All, I have been trying many many things on my Ultra-D. This is an older machine of mine I haven't used much until recently. First of all I am almost positive it is an Ultra-D, how do I check for sure? Now then, I have been getting random BSOD, with page fault etc. I can't seem to recreate the error, after reboot if I do the same things, doesn't happen. Makes it very difficult to troubleshoot. I am using Crucial Rendition Memory and when I test each module separately (one for 8 hours and one for 2 hours) using the motherboards built in Memtest86+ v1.65 using latest bios from website....everything is fine. Tested in top orange slot. Now as soon as I put both chips in at same time (orange or yellow), I get loads of memory errors with same tests. I also bumped up voltage to 2.7 and am using default 3-3-3-8 timings. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Or when you turn the board on it should say at the POST screen (press DEL) Can you list everything else that you are using with the board (be as specific as you can). - CPU, eg 3500+ Winchester core or Venice core - Power supply, brand/model and wattage - Memory, 2x1GB or 2x512MB? (both purchased at the same time or a kit?) - Gfx card - Drives Do you have all 4 power connectors plugged into the board? - 24pin ATX - 4pin +12v P4 connector - Molex on top the chipset fan - Small molex under the CPU socket. Use the orange slots and try these timings. CPU is an Opteron 144 Power Supply is an Enermax EG565P-VE 2 x 1GB, purchased at same time, exact same chips ATI Radeon x850XT video Maxtor IDE 250GB IDE DVD Rom Drive As for 4 power connectors....the small floppy power connector under CPU socket wasn't connected...it seemed to make things worse. The memory timings didn't help. Memtest 86+ v1.65 built into bios still fails. With memory timings you suggested, failed on test 2...when I went back to optimized defaults, failed on test 5. Man this sucks....might just have to run machine with 1GB ????? Any more help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am running 04/06/2006 bios, should I update it using CD found on these forums? Also, can't see sticker as board is in case to confirm 100% that it is an Ultra-D board, and doesn't say in post...but at bottom where bios is listed there is NF-CK804-6A61FD496-00 Looking forward to more replies. bldegle2 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 i have found that the 704-2bta can be the solution to balky runnings with this board, might want to give it a try (you found the CD, burn one, install the 704). since the mems are failing with the Memtest runnings, it may well be a problem with the ram. i personally don't have any love for the PS your are running, the one i had was lacking a bit on volt output as tested with a voltmeter, had problems in a DFI Ultra, but ran fine in a lessor demanding situation (ie, different manu MB), another thing to think about.... laterzzz....
