Topped out on 3800 X2 ..?

With dividers on the RAM (and loose timings), the board hiccups above 275. (275 was OCCT stable)

 

I will change the 'fsb' to just a bit over (say 277), and the board hangs just before it does the whole 'verifying DMI pool data' thing ('backing up CMOS' is what comes after), and then reboots.

 

Why does it hang here, and are there any suggestions? Upping voltage didn't help it past this little hurdle.

So you're currently running your X2 3800 at 2.65ghz? That's not too shabby :)

 

Anyway, if you want to post up all of your BIOS settings using the Socket939 OCDB template we can take a look at them and see if there is any other minor tweaking that can be done.

 

Template is attached. Just replace the values already there, with the actual values from your BIOS.

I was just wondering why the computer would freeze on the 'verifying DMI pool data' or the step just before it?

 

My max was 2.75 with ram on dividers, this mushkin kit tops out a 222. : (

Tested ON 275 is stable, however.

 

I'm trying to keep OC'ing on CnQ because I like it idling at lower temps and using less power when I'm just browsing the net. I know it's stubborn and boorish, but could you bear with me on that ^^;

 

from 110% - 113% doesn't help me past that step in the bios 'boot up'

that may be something that make your OC crap out

 

CnQ have to be disable if you overclock otherwise system hang can appear and limit your OC

QFT

 

It was always recommended to completely disable CnQ on the NF4 boards when overclocking.

 

AMD and nVidia just never got it quite right on that chipset when users started manually messing around with voltages, multipliers, fsb etc.

Can you explain a little what those new ram tweakings will do? I have read through the memory part of the OC'ing guide and it says 4 Drive Strength is good for non-TCCD memory.

Cool n Quiet is only good for people that are trying to consume power, not for overclockers. You don't want your cpu voltage to fluctuate period. Especially when you have it over the stock voltage. Not a good idea, listen to some of the members here.

I always had the best luck with a setting of 4 on Drive Strength too, but since you are wanting to squeeze every last bit OC out of your rig, it's time to start "playing with the values" one point here one point there kind of thing to see if we can get the absolute fine tuning right on the money. Thats another reason I recommended leaving some of the settings on auto. From there we will have to take it one setting at a time.
