Insifficient proformence? 8600 gt

Recommended Posts

I got a new PC. And I tried to figgure out how good it is running.

The overclocking results were kind of good I think.

I tested it with ntunes and it told me I could overclock the gpu with 11% and the pci-e with 14%.

my 3d-mark06 benchmark (trail version) had a result was between 5600 and 6900 (without overclocking how does the change happen?).

the temprature is between 47 °C = 117 °F and 50 C = 122 F (when i'm on my desktop). the max temperatur I got was about 70°C=158°F when i played supreme comander (which is a bit slow with my system)

And i got a problem i can't change the fanspeed (ntunes/rivatuner/fanspeed wont work)

and i do have "everest ultimate edition" running i don't really know if it's only a system viewing programm or a manipulation tool too.

Can I set PCI-E to 2*?

do u think these values are ok for a

When i had my 6800gt oc and i overclocked it above stock clocks i would get below average performance. And Ntune is not good for overclocking i would use rivatuner. There have been known problems with ntune and stability and killing systems. And i would go with in game performance then with your programs that you are using. If you OC your vid card and you get a 2 more fps in game then before you are improving. That is the biggest determining factor. Most around here feel the same way, in game performance is far more important then synthetic benchies.

Hope that helps.

You have a fairly nice rig there so i would just enjoy it.

I didn't use ntunes to OC. I used it for auto determination how much my GPU could take.

You helped. And will sleep better now :)

It just didn't feel right because my old PC

g4200gt

athlon 64

2 gig ram

worked with 70 fps in a game and then new one with 100 fps and that is "only" 40%

And remember the 8600 isn't a very quick card to begin with.

ok then I will try to sell this card for some money and hope some one is dump enough to buy it. for 80% of the new price... As I looked at the used grafic card offers there were many 2 or 3 month old 8600 gt I wonder why :P

what card would you suggest me then? I don't wanna spend more then 200$/150€.

and the double ram would be like 20-30$ at max. so that wouldnt bother me much.

well i'm not up to date with grafik cards I have to confess.

where can I read what card has what preferences and where the card is good in?

It look as if the shaders (amount then clock) would do much of the job and the second important is the gpu clock and the last important thing is the ram clock. Am I right with that?

Normally I'm not a detail junky I don't really need it. I like a card that basicly gives me a nice fps at med level details.

I don't know if you guys know Spring... it's a open source rts game. At my old system I had everything on mid lvl details and it ran well 1024*768.

athlon 64 3000+

2 gig ram

4200 gt

it ran fine! now as i got my

athlon x2 5200+

1 gig ram (i will get the second gig very soon)

and the 8600 gt

it stucks at med lvl detail 1024*768?! only thing a have now is reflectiv water... i set it of and i still suck at the fps!

many ppl with a 8600 gt report about xxxxy proformence... i once went down to really bad 3 fps... with med detail settings. that's awfull. that's worse then with the old card. where can this come from? well I don't care really since I will not have this card for a long time from now on I guess. especially because i can here my pc running 2 rooms further (with doors shut!) and i can't change the fan speed.

oh there is the other point: i wanna have it kind of silent. (silent means if I change the fan speed of my cpu from 100% to 50% I wanna notice the difference)

I found a

BFG Geforce 8800 GTS, 320 MB 5 month old for 150€ is that a good price?

Spring is only as fast as your CPU and ram, so your 8600 is not the problem. Your specs should be more than adequate to play Spring. You must be doing something wrong with your system to be having it run that slow, or perhaps you don't have Spring set up properly. Supreme Commander running slow is a bit more understandable.

nope actually not.

Spring only uses one core... so my good old athlon 64 3000+ had more "power" then the x2 5200+

didn't know that spring only uses the cpu. i'll speak to the developers if they can do anything about it.
