Novartic_ Posted January 21, 2008 Hello all.... I am looking for some reliable, good looking DDR2 RAM. I was looking at the 1066MHz OCZ stuff but some one on another forum said that this is old school and that 1066MHz is over kill, im like :S what ever... I want at least 4GB as this is the MAX an OS can take unless 64Bit of course... My MB can take up to 8GB so then I was thinking if the IO would like a bit, but then 4GB to IO is a bit too generous don’t you think. The hardware that I will be running is the following: Motherboard: Asus Maximus Formula (NOT Special edition ) CPU: Core2Duo Q6600 OC @ 3.2 GHz GFX: Two ATI HD 3870 Crossfire cards in CF mode. HD: 2 x WD 78GB Raptors RAID-0 -OS HD: 4 x WD 250GB RAID-5 -Data Cooling: // CoolerMaster Stacker STC-T01 + 4x120mm, 3x80mm fans. // Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme + 120mm fan for CPU. // CoolerMaster Stacker Side Fan for MB components cooling. TV card in the future.. Don’t know if this will need extra RAM for IO. Was looking in the OCZ area, also at the Corsair TwinX Dominator 1066MHz Dual Channel and Geil Black Dragon 1066Mhz all of which are DDR2. Your idea’s please... O and the MB can be in Duel-Channel mode
powsmowl Posted January 21, 2008 Youll be happy with DDR2-800, since ALL DDR2 ram over 800 is just overclocked 800. So stick with G.Skill, OCZ, Crucial, Patriot, Corsair, Kingston etc DDR2-800 (look for D9 chips for good OCing) and youll be set.
Novartic_ Posted January 21, 2008 Intresting information there powsmowl, but how am I suposed to see if they have D9 chips on the module? lol..
powsmowl Posted January 21, 2008 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231065 Those have D9s and as you can see are very popular. Otherwise google is your friend.

Repr Posted January 21, 2008 id recommend against kingston ram seeing your overclock. great ram at stock, but very poor overclockers i have pc6400 ddr2-800 kingston hyper-X cl4 and it clocks to a maximum of 850mhz. and i hear lots of people that have problems clocking kingston ram much higher
Chump Posted January 21, 2008 2GB Kit I would have the OCZ 8500 SLI's 4GB Kit I would go for the 8000 reaper kit or the G.sKILL 4GB kit. CN P.S OT / Nice to se someone local to me on here.
powsmowl Posted January 21, 2008 As I said, RAM above DDR2-800 is pretty pointless, since 800Mhz RAM with DMGH9s can be had for much cheaper and will almost always reach 1066 or more Mhz

powsmowl Posted January 21, 2008 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231065 Those have D9s and as you can see are very popular. Other sets by G.Skill, Kingston, OCZ and Team Group have Micron D9s. Dont pay extra $ for speeds that can be reached on your own. See the thing is with RAM over DDR2-800 is, that even though they say 1066Mhz, they will boot at 800 the first time and require you to OC them to those speeds. Sure you get the garanty that they will reach those speeds, but 98% of Micron D9s will do atleast 1066Mhz.
