Assuming you even have the choice that is. This week the FDA announced the following:

"Meat and milk from clones of cattle, swine, and goats, and the offspring of clones from any species traditionally consumed as food, are as safe to eat as food from conventionally bred animals," Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official Randall Lutter told a news conference.

Lutter said his agency would not require food made from cloned animals or their offspring to be specially labeled, but producers could apply for the right to label their foods "clone-free."

(snip)

"USDA is encouraging the technology producers to maintain their voluntary moratorium on sending milk and meat from animal clones into the food supply during this transition time," USDA official Bruce Knight told reporters.

Referenced from This Article.

So basically they are injecting this stuff into food supply without giving us the right to choose. Niiice. Now they producers can choose to label their foods "Clone Free", but they don't have to.

So the question is, how comfortable do you feel eating meat or drinking the milk from a cloned cow? Or it's offspring? (which is going to be more the case for awhile till cloning isn't as expensive)

You trust the FDA that sufficient testing has been and enough data has been collected to validate their claims?

I couldn't care less if they're cloned or not. To be completely honest though I'm not certain we actually need to clone anything to get the meat that we need, we seem to be doing just fine the 'normal' way.

If sexed-up meat is cheaper I'm totally going that way. Be nice to the cows, let 'em get laid before I eat them! Then again, if cloned meat is cheaper (at some point in the future) then I see no reason to not get it.

In any case, I suspect this is just a scam to get bald eagle back on the menu.

I think I'll wait and see if people who are eating meat or drinking by-products of cloned animals start dropping over dead from un-explained cancers in 10-15 years.

By then I'll probably be dead or not have any teeth anyway so it won't matter by then.

We've been messing around with meat for millenia via the arts of animal husbandry and vets.

If they consistently generate the best steaks cheaply by cloning then why not.

Whats more important to me is the life of the animal prior to being butchered, packaged and served on a plate in front of me and my grumbling belly. I like to think they were happy in their docile fashion before the bolt to the head stikes them down. I also think if you're squeamish about killing animals for food then you should be a veggie or learn to keep your prissy little mouth shut when having the facts of food explained to you.

This mini rant isn't aimed at anyone here just people I've met that are very unlikely to ever be in this forum so apologies for the misdirected ire.

If it is not natural then why are you eating it?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's more natural than SPAM. And I love SPAM. So yeah, it's good to go.

Now if only we could engineer an animal to crap out cans of SPAM...mmm

I picked Hell No. I think where our food is derived we should be on the road to completely natural. Either Animal Mineral Vegetable it should be kept as unpolluted as possible.

If say in 100 years that all cows were derived from one cow then all the clones would have the same strength weaknesses as the prime cow? I think natural diversity is a key factor.

I know I probably eat genetically modified food but given the clear choice I would rather not. An apple of say 50 years ago was a hell of a lot richer in nutrients than an apple today. I read somewhere that today you cannot get all your recommended daily nutrients/vitamins from food alone, you still have to take vitamin pills.
