Unable to boot after flashing to new bios, tried various suggestions t

EDIT: SOLVED

Hello everyone, I am new here to the street forums. So prior to this problem, i had formatted my computer and was able to get into windows desktop just fine. I did all the dandy windows updates for xp and everything and restarted. after i was settled in with all the updates, i decided that maybe i should flash my bios to the newest version. went onto dfi's website and grabbed the 2006/04/06 bios update and used winflash to get it done. now i have used winflash before and never had a problem with it completing successfully. I flashed it this time without a problem as well, since it did reach 100% completion. now after i restarted the computer, the issue came up with it not booting to anything. all it does is run the fans like crazy max speed, and 4 red leds can be seen from the motherboard. I tried the various methods of clearing the cmos, including the ones found on this forum. one of them being to unplug the power from psu, remove battery, cmos normal to cmos clear for 60 secs, then back to normal, then battery back on, then psu cable back on, and power on. monitor does not detect a signal coming from the video card. only 1 hard drive(sata) is connected. please let me know what i can do from here. thanks!

Quite a few of us don't use winflash since it can result in errors; I stick to using either a floppy or Tmod's BIOS CD (link in sig).

First thing I'd try is to pull the system out of the case and set it up as a minimal build, do an extended clear CMOS, then try to boot it.

clear CMOS procedure is linked in my sig

Minimal build means having only the following components connected to the motherboard:

- 1 stick of RAM

- 1 HDD

- 1 graphics card

- Keyboard/Mouse

If an extended clear CMOS and minimal boot doesn't bring it back you'll probably need a replacement BIOS chip; you can PM Tmod or Loggan26 and they should be able to supply you one pre-flashed with the appropriate BIOS, or you can contact DFI customer service and request one from them.

would i still be able to do the extended procedure if i dont have a 4 pin connector on the tx750? as far as i know, i dont see how i can plug mine in. i only have 6/8 pin connectors unlike my previous antec neo power 480. also i have no floppy and nothing to connect floppy power connector to so would that matter?

about how much would it cost and is it justifiable to try to revive such an old platform factoring in the costs?

According to Corsair's spec, the TX750 has 2 floppy power connectors (probably at the end of the molex cables); it's always advisable to have them connected as this aids in system stability.

If it's only the BIOS chip, then it's only a matter of maybe $10 or so; but I think it'll probably come back with an extended clear CMOS.

Having them connected to the motherboard does aid in system stability (especially when running SLI). My personal feeling is that if it has a power connection then it should be connected. While it's probably not causing your problem it's certainly not a bad idea to connect them.

Hi, new to the forum also.

Did exactly the same thing yesterday as you Specialistx. EXACTLY the same procedure (with winflash and went to 100%, rebooted to a blank screen, won't POST). The only difference is that my 4 LEDs lights up during power up and then only 2 remains on. Tried extended clear CMOS yesterday with no luck, still wouldn't POST.

I think, the problem is this version of BIOS (2006/04/06) says it's for SST 49LF040B. However, my BIOS chip is SST 49LF004B, I wonder if yours is also this one.

Anyway, I resorted to getting new BIOS chips. Bought 2 from bios-repair.co.uk and going to buy RD1 BIOS Savior later this week.

ps.. I wonder if buy the SST 49LF040B chips, would they work on my board...

Hi, new to the forum also.

Did exactly the same thing as you Specialistx yesterday. Formated to Win XP SP2, updated BIOS to 2006/04/06 using winflash (yes, I know better now), went to 100% and rebooted to a blank screen, won't POST. Only difference is that my 4 LEDs lights up during power up, then 2 remains on. Tried extended clear CMOS last night with no luck.

I've resorted to buying new BIOS chips from bios-repair.co.uk and I'm going to buy a RD1 BIOS Savior later this week.

I wonder if the problem originated because of the different BIOS chips? My original BIOS chip is SST SST49LF004B, whereas the newest BIOS upgrade is for SST SST49LF040B.

I hope this info helps you. Any further thoughts radodrill?
