Spring2188 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I need some help putting together a complete build for the office. I wanna put together something as cheap as possible, but be pretty up to date system. I won't be doing any OC'ing or gaming. I must have a very nice display and wireless keyboard and mouse combo. Here is what I got so far... need help and recommendations for the rest. http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/Shopping...spx?Submit=view http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827106057 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119106 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136075 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824009094 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231098 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115031 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16832116056

red930 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Unless your office requires a lot of cpu power there's no reason to spring for a $125 processor when an X2 3800+ is more than enough. Personally I'd just get a single core AM2 for an office environment. The memory can stay the same, should work just fine. This Biostar motherboard has built-in graphics that should be more than enough for your needs. To keep it cheap, this Thermaltake power supply should be enough juice for the system outlined above, unless you start adding a lot of hard drives, a graphics card, etc, etc.
MACarter02 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Onboard video enough for 1680x1050? wow.
red930 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Onboard video enough for 1680x1050? wow. Easily, I ran 1920x1200 on my old Biostar. If I remember correctly I even played a 1080p movie on a single core Sempron on that board without too many issues. I mean, obviously it won't work out if you want to game at that resolution, but for common Windows apps it works just fine. Edit: And it still has a PCI-e slot if you find you need something better in the future.

ReelFiles Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I would just get a dell if it's for an office, they need a warranty and Dell's are cheap.

Let someone else take care of the support. Just get 2GB RAM and be done with it (use our link possibly? lol) btw, I'm still waiting for one of the boneheads that are on staff to tell me they can test this damn P35-DS3R board that is still sitting next to my server... red930 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Yeah, i would go with what some of the users are saying about a DELL system. @Angry What's wrong with the GigaByte board? Stutter on desktop?
Angry_Games Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Yeah, i would go with what some of the users are saying about a DELL system. @Angry What's wrong with the GigaByte board? Stutter on desktop? It's a board that Chris sent me along with 2GB DDR2 and a Q6600, and I think a 7800GT, and I set it all up for him, overclocked it to 3Ghz, put it in the OCDB, packed it all back up and shipped it to him...and I guess the board wouldn't boot again when he got it. He bought a replacement and sent this one back to me to see if I could bring it back to life...and I bet I could...except I don't have any Core2 cpu's nor any 775 cpu's left to test with it. So been waiting for one of the mods to tell me they have a Core2 and some time to take a look at it. Beyond Chris saying it doesn't boot, I have no idea as I've not even pulled it out of the box since it arrived a couple of weeks ago.
