specter Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 OK, so I was using my computer today when it shut off randomly. I try to turn it back on and I notice that it doesn't boot up anymore (doesn't even show the LanParty splash screen). I notice theres the debug LEDs. At first, when I turn on the system on, there are 4 LEDs on, the fourth one flashes on and off while the other three stay (this happens for a while), then it stops flashing, the third LED stop lighting, the second LED stops lighting, then the computer makes a long beep noise (same noise but longer than the beep noise that would usually occur when the comp was working when I booted it up), and only the first debug LED remains on. The computer stays with the power on but nothing is happening, while the first debug LED is on the whole time. Can anyone help with this? If I need to replace a part, which part do I need to replace? My hardware is 2x512MB RAM from OCZ AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Processor ATI X850XT CoolerMaster Real Power 550W Power Supply SoundBlaster XFi Some WD Harddrive (forgot the name)
specter Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Heres what I tried so far: I switched my 2x512MB ram from the orange slots to the yellow slots, still same thing I tried CMOS clear for about 12 hours, still same thing I moved the videocard down one slot, still same thing I switched the port that my monitor was connected to, still same thing Also, here's what I notice with the fans. The comp first turns on, all the fans (vidcard, mobo, cpu) are running. The 4th LED flashes for a while, then it just goes to the single LED, which is when it makes the long beep noise. That's when the mobo and cpu fans turn off. The vidcard fan is still running though.
red930 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I just recently had the exact same probs as you, except the last part you detailed about the mb and cpu fans turning off, mine stayed running. Switching my gfx card to the lower slot solved my prob, until then I was suspecting either gfx or psu, was about to try a diff gfx card 1st, even an old pci one would suffice, then test psu w/digital multi meter and a minimal build outside of case

Guest Blooz1 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 1 LED on = VGA detected ok, system is entering bios. When you cleared the CMOS, did you remove the battery? Here is the "official" method of clearing the CMOS from a "no boot" condition: http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=24 Be sure to follow all the steps exactly - if you skip or miss any steps, you'll have to start over since it won't work! specter Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I followed these directions the DFI tech support gave me to do a CMOS clear , and it didn't work: 1. pull power *A/C Power from wall outlet*.2. pull battery 3. clear cmos jumper to pins 2 and 3 for minimum of 30-60 seconds *For Real troublesome systems use 8 hours*. 4. replace battery 5. replace cmos jumper to normal position pins 1 and 2. 6. replace power *A/C Power from wall outlet*. 7. boot to bios and load optimized defaults 8. save and exit 9. boot back to bios and now you can change settings to your liking. *Is what we are trying to get to*. Thanks, I will try that way you linked me tomorrow and see how it goes. BTW where is the PC Speaker jumper and whats it look like? Sharp Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Hello, Make sure that you have all 4 power connectors plugged into the board. - 24pin ATX - 4pin +12v P4 connector - Molex under the CPU socket - Molex on top the chipset fan Use 1 memory stick and place it in the top orange slot. Remove the gfx card/unplugged power connector Remove the X-Fi Remove all the IDE cables/SATA cables Remove all power cables from hard drives/CD drives Power the PC like that. What happens? (with the LEDs)

Sharp Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 To old for warranty? What is your next card going to be?
specter Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Ya too old for warranty Gonna buy a 7800GT for cheap from a friend. Maybe I'll upgrade to a nicer card soon though, like HD3850, thats pretty cheap and gives a pretty noticeable improvement in performance. I haven't really looked into it though, but would a PCI-e 2.0 card like that work on my mobo?
Sharp Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Yeah it will work. There is a sticky on the top with people running PCI 2.0 cards.
