O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 How do I disable the Windows key on my keyboard; I want to eliminate this little nuisance while gaming. heh
d3bruts1d Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 Regedit time! Open regedit, and go to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout Look for "Scancode Map"... If it's there, edit it, if not add it (Binary Value). Edit Scancode Map so it has this value: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 5B E0 00 00 5C E0 00 00 00 00 Save and reboot. O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 Is this the only way to disable the key, other than popping the key off my keyboard heh?
d3bruts1d Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 Can't say that I've really ever looked for another way. I've done this, and it's worked for me.. Though my ultimate goal is to find a nice keyboard without the stupid windows key on it.

Just get an old school "clank-clank" sounding Fujitsu keyboard from the XT-386 days and use a DIN-5 to PS/2 converter.
Mist Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 hmm reminds me aside from alt tabbing and using the indows key what other ways can u minimiza games? Cod wont do it with either of these and i wish it would.
andrusk Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 I think ctrl+alt+delete might minize it too.
Mister_Webmaster Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 I have a old compaq keyboard with a 5 pin DIN and it doesn't have a wndws key, but you may be able to get away with a new keyboard that has only one windows key (on the left side) I use the right side of my keyboard to play games and I never hit the windows key. ClayMeow Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 hmm reminds me aside from alt tabbing and using the indows key what other ways can u minimiza games? Cod wont do it with either of these and i wish it would. look in the manual and see if it mentions changing an option to make it "windowed" which is another word for making it alt-tab-able. Sometimes, simply adding "-w" or "-window" (minus the quotation marks) in the target for the exe makes it run in a window. But yes, ctrl-alt-del technically works, though it could screw your game up sometimes.
