Guest RandallTank Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 I am a gamer and enjoy OCing, the comp would be mostly for gaming with a little bit of video encoding. I already have a 8800GT and I am thinking about getting http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishli...tNumber=9746527 and getting a Q9450 or E8400 when they are released, is the mobo compatible i thought i read somewhere the P35 were. I was also thinking about using vista 64bit for directx 10 any comments? THANK YOU PS I would kinda like it to be over 1k so I can use my preferred account for no payments for a year rather then 6 months. I am interested in trying water cooling and or case mods (assuming newegg sells good parts of either (case = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811133021 ) EDIT: wonder how many more 3Dmarks i would get LOL http://img526.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mark06og0.jpg EDIT 2: changed out below http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16817814015 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16813128059 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231098
paulktreg Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Why not just use your 8800GT in the Expert and fit a high end X2 processor. Play just about any game you can throw at it!
Guest RandallTank Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 it would honestly cost me more money. another 2 GB of the ram i have is $240, and opty 180 is another $170. the E2180 is $85, the ram is $240, the mobo is $97. 410 vs 422, if i can sell the DFI+ram for $12 i am even with triple? performance
jid1877 Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Why not get this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231098 and this CPU for around the same money. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115029

Yukon Trooper Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Good choice on the mobo for gaming/overclocking. I have the P965-DS3 and that is exactly what I use it for. It isn't packed with features but I like it that way. I don't use any of the extra bells and whistles found on a lot of the more expensive boards. You pay for performance with the DS3's. Consider the DS3R if you ever plan on going RAID. Everything else looks good. You should be able to save money on the PSU though. I don't think you'll be needing 700W unless you plan on going SLI or Crossfire. With everything moving down to 65/45nm, performance per watt will only continue to get better. Guest element Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 About 500. Corsair HX520. Or similar well spec'd and value. Silverstones, liberty line of Enermax, Heck even the tough power line from Thermaltake is passable.

They are the same board but the third one is open box. Around 500W for your setup would be more than enough. The Corsairs are highly suggested by almost everyone everywhere. Probably the overall best performers especially for the money. The HX520 and HX620 are the ones I would look at. They are also the best modular units around IMO. They have rubber sleeves around the wires for easy management and a clean setup. Right up your alley. The 520 is great but if you ever plan on adding an extra high end GPU then there is no harm in getting the 620.

Oh, and the 520HX has taken everything I've thrown at it. Up to and including a 3.7GHz quad core with an overclocked 8800GTX and 6 hard drives. I imagine the 620HX is similarly heavy duty.
