The one's I looked at on Newegg is all around $359 except for the BFG one which is $329 or the Evga one which is $359 but includes Crysis. Thanks for the help. radodrill Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I generally stick with BFG, XFX, or EVGA since they offer a lifetime warranty. Generally the only real differences between different vendors are the accessory bundles, warranty terms, and the sticker on the cooler; but some vendors will tweak the BIOS and/or offer improved cooling solutions. Gotta agree with Rad here, I just picked up the BFG and am extremely happy with it. EVGA and XFX would have been my other two choices and I have used EVGA's stepup program before. How does it work? Register the card you bought then if something better comes out in 90 days I contact them? Though now I'm worried that the 8800GTS might block all 4 of my SATA ports on my mobo. Saw the pics in the GT8800 thread and was wondering if the larger fan of the GTS would block the bottom 2 SATA ports also? I only use 2 of them. The step-up program allows you to trade in the card for the MSRP towards a new card (I'm pretty sure) so if the 9800 came out within the 90 days you could trade your card in and pay the difference. Ah that's a pretty cool program. Also notice the EVga one has a $20 rebate on Newegg. So should I get the EVga one at $347 with Crysis (and the chance that the 9800s comes out in about 90 days) or the BFG 8800GT OC that's $237 at my local Best Buy (Website say they have it in stock in a store near me)? I know the performance between the 2 has only minimal differences from what I read (and I know most of you guys prefer the GT over the GTS)but I'm a bit worried about the smaller cooler on the GT. wevsspot Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 You can always use RT to create custom fan duty cycles for the 8800GT (i.e. turn up the fan speed at preset temperatures). Alternatively, it shouldn't be very long before some really good aftermarket coolers start popping up on the scene specifically for the 8800GT. Especially as well as the card appears to be selling. If I were spending my own money I wouldn't purchase the GTS. IMHO the 8800GT 512mb card offers the best bang for buck performance. Plus a free crysis game and a $20 mir how can you go wrong? then when evga comes out with a better card in 3 months you just pay the price diff and shipping and it's yours. NCIX has a nice sale going on right now and the rebate takes it down to a great price. It's OEM (just the card, nothing else) and only has a 1 year warranty, but I'll be selling it in less than a year anyways when the 9800 series of cards arrive.
