Guest berknip Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 All, Please bear with me for a minute as I know this sounds tragic. I bought the rig in my sig a year ago with the intention of having a very nice/current/fast system. However, life intervened (as it will do) and I never managed to complete the build. I had everything assembled at one point, but the MB was completely toast (no boot, only standby LED). I RMAd it and it was sent back to me with information about what was repaired. It sat in the box. I finally get the opportunity to build the rig, but it has the exact same issue. I've tried powering it up outside of the case, with minimal components - tried different power supplies, different CPUs - nothing. I know my options are limited and it's a shame I didn't assemble it immediately after receiving the RMA return, but that's the way life works out sometimes. I just don't know if there's anything I can do with this MB at this point and was looking for any kind of recommendations. I've never seen this MB boot - ever. Thanks for reading and anything you think might work.
wevsspot Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Minimal build again, outside the case (just like you've done before). Then follow ExRoadie's guide for a CMOS clear from a no boot condition, found here in post #24; http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showthread...?t=13443&page=2 See if that kicks it back to life. Sharp Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I changed that post, you must never remove the battery on the Expert/Venus boards.
wevsspot Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 What happens when you need to replace the battery? Or are you speaking battery removal for CMOS clear purposes only?
Sharp Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Yeah only when clearing CMOS you must not. Something about the board, it stores more settings which when cleared (by removing the battery) may cause the board not to boot. Guest berknip Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Too late. I already tried the recommended procedure, but unfortunately nothing changed. I even tried changing the battery. I'm not getting any of the diagnostic LEDs to light - or even the power supply to 'turn on' when the power button is pressed, although the STANDBY LED is lit. Any other recommendations? What is the minimum hardware (CPU, memory, etc.) that must be installed in order to test the board and at least get ONE diagnostic LED to light up? Thanks. wevsspot Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 What other power supplies did you try with the board?
Sharp Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Just the board, CPU and memory. Any fans jerk when you press the power button? Plus what Wevsspot has suggested.
