Guest Ne0 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Hi all, Just got myself a partial upgrade of an x1950 pro and tried fitting it but the machine just refuses to post now The bank of four LEDs shows one LED only and the speaker emits a long beep. System fans, and the gfx card fan, light up but it just refuses to post. Any advice greatly appreciated. Naturally it all points to the vid card as when I put my old 6800 ultra back in the system boots fine I have tried clearing cmos via the jumpers and get the same result
bldegle2 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 one long beep>video card problem.... are all four plugs from the PS attached properly to the MB? you may have a bad x1950. I have a top of the line x1950xtx, been fine since day one.... do you have a friend with a similiar rig who can test your card???? laterzzzz..... radodrill Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Also, try clearing the CMOS during the graphics card swap; might just be the ticket.
Guest Ne0 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Just looked in the manual and it says one beep and one LED is a RAM issue. I find this odd as I haven't touched the RAM. Could it be the PSU failing to deliver enough juice? Does the 1950pro use more juice than a 6800 ultra? Thanks for any advice. Evil-Fruits|R4z Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I have this exact same problem, just gone from 2x7900GTO's to 1x8800GTX. One long beep and 1 LED and when you down power I get a high pitched squeal too? Thing is I CMOS cleared and it posted and booted into windows so, I installed new drivers then restarted and it failed to post....turned off left it for 2 mins then turned on and it posted? Any ideas? Sorry for the hijack btw R4z
Yukon Trooper Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Did you just install the drivers over your previous drivers? Proper way is to uninstall your current drivers, reboot into safemode and use Driver Cleaner Pro, reboot and install new drivers. You can actually do that all in safemode but I just use Driver Cleaner in safemode.
Evil-Fruits|R4z Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Didnt use driver cleaner but yeah removed drivers, powered down and installed new card then booted up to install new drivers. Failed to boot on 1st go tho so, very doubtful drivers have anything to do with it tbh. Seems to be fine atm but, have only got 1 HDD connected to the Nforce SATA slots that I can access(GFX card covers two of the four). Will plug the other 2 HDD back into the other SATA ports(numbers 5-7) tommorrow and see what happens - wouldn't even see them in BIOS last time? radodrill Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 You should be able to use 1 of the covered SATA ports; just need a cable with a 90 degree end.

Done that Can just get to 2 of the 4 but, I have 3HDDS in total so I need another SATA port unfortunately....
wevsspot Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Just looked in the manual and it says one beep and one LED is a RAM issue. I find this odd as I haven't touched the RAM. Where at in your manual does it say that one LED is a RAM issue? As far as beep codes go...... On page 138 of the SLi-DR manual it states the following; A.1 POST Beep There are two kinds of beep codes in the BIOS. One code indicates that a video error has occured and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information. This beep code consists of a single long beep followed by three short beeps. The other code indicates that a DRAM error has occured. This beep consists of a single long beep. Your LED's are telling you that there is a VGA problem. Will the machine boot if you put the video card in the bottom slot? Guest Ne0 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Problem solved...well kind of. I just need to RMA the card now Tested the gfx card in a friends system and as I suspected it was fried. When i listened closely to my machine it was doing one long beep and two short, indicating vga card not being detected. The two short beeps were uber-fast! Thanks for all the help and input. @evil fruits- the only time I have heard that squeal is on a friends machine when he forgot to connect his PSU to the graphics card. I take it you have connected yours? If so, it may not be delivering enough power...
Evil-Fruits|R4z Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Yeah both 6-pin's are connected and its a Corsair HX620 so, there should be sufficient juice... It only squeals when the power is turned off and only every 3rd or 4th time??
