Just out of curiousity, has anyone here been through this torturous upgrade?

MS Puts Upgrade In A Spin

This is incredible! Only Microsoft could be this arrogant towards their "customers"!

interesting...makes me even more glad I have a PS3. unless sony sent out a technician to upgrade your hard drive, it can't get any easier. (I have a 250GB drive in my PS3, and have a 320GB coming)

as it stands right now, I will never purchase another Microsoft console. By the time I'm ready for a new console, I'll have a tv that is capable of 720p finally (mine only does 480p and 1080i, which means most PS3 games will downscale to 480p instead of upscale to 1080i, one good thing about the 360....the ONE good thing).

Microsoft has shot me in the face with a double-barrel shotgun repeatedly since their original Xbox, and frankly I'm pissed and not going to take it anymore.

You can see how xxxxing nazi Microsoft is these days by looking at either 360 bull crap or their Vista operating system which is a wholly different rant I could spot you 200,000 words on.

Then there's the fact that 360's will accept USB external drives, but of course they use FAT32 which means unless you know wtf you are doing, you are limited to 32GB drives...as well as the fact that you can partition say an 80GB drive into 3 27GB partitions and guess what? Only the first partition is readable on a 360!

Ah, then there's the network connectivity...you have to either use Windows Media Center (a pile of . add-on for XP), Windows Vista (the biggest piece of . OS ever, even worse than Windows Millenium), or the Media Center Extender utility in XP...which means you have to turn on UPnP (a security issue), and then let this extender suck up about 400MB of RAM...and you STILL CANNOT WATCH ANYTHING BUT WMV VIDEOS...this is after MS made all kinds of claims about how you could watch ANY vid format via the network once you connect your 360 to a machine running Vista, Media Center, or XP w/MC extender.

Oh I'm sure someone has figured out how to get their AVI's and MPEG's to work via this useless bull crap route, but I've tried probably...ONE HUNDRED TIMES (in probably 5 different time where I wanted it to work dammit! It takes hours to convert everything into goddamn WMV).

So MS finally patched the 360 to allow Xvid/Divx avi's, but they've crippled it once again by not allowing the H.264 codec. Their update claims some sort of H.264 codec, but of course, it won't play any videos that are using the most popular AVI containers (.mkv, .m4v I think is the other one) created with the FREE H.264 codec called x264.

So...basically to get your H.264 encoded videos to work, you have to buy a super-expensive H.264 solution (one company, Main Concept charges some outrageous xxxxing price), or just the fact that you even have to buy something so lame as Apple's Quicktime which can encode in H.264 (but of course, leaves you with .mov files instead of .mkv or .avi's, which is a whole different hassle when using a MICROSOFT system whether it is gaming console or Operating System for PC's).

I mean, seriously...xxxx off Microsoft. I hope people are beginning to get tired of your nonsense in the same way we are all sick and tired of "evangelical christian morals". I pretty much equate the two:

Microsoft wants to force you to use only their products while nickel-and-diming you to death (or . you off with DRM .)

Evangelicals want everyone in this country (as well as the earth itself) to live and breathe their own xxxxed-up morals system and jam that . down our throats (which is actually against the Constitution but you know, religion doesn't care anymore than Microsoft).

I hate Microsoft more and more each day. I'm not a big fan of Sony either, as they have their own bull crap (rootkit DRM's, proprietary High-Def formats, etc). Nintendo is only slightly better but at least Nintendo wants you to have fun and you know up front their console doesn't play dvd's, doesn't play videos, doesn't do diddly . except play games, and on top of that Nintendo makes it VERY WELL KNOWN that if you buy something like a Virtual Console game then it is tied to that Wii forever and ever, and cannot be transferred.

Microsoft doesn't really come out and explicitly state this, they sorta hem-and-haw about it.

Oh, then there's the whole Microsoft bull crap fiasco of making a console with a hdd, and one without. So what the xxxx, you've basically just crippled game developers by the fact that game devs always have to program to the lowest-common-denominator, which means all the games have to assume that there is no hard drive for storage/caching. Way to go dudes. xxxxing BRILLIANT!

I could go on and on...

I have one question AG. How many keyboards do you go through a year? I imagine with all of your rants you are striking your keys hard enough to bruise your fingertips...or in the Vista rants, bloody keys.

lol

funny you should ask as a couple of days ago I FINALLY swapped out my Compaq keyboard that I've had for 7+ years. That thing has been ripped apart and cleaned so freakin many times, but it was always the absolute best keyboard I'd ever let my fingers touch. Something about the way the keys feel.

If you notice your keys on your keyboard, the tops are slightly rough/grippy. The Compaq...you could reflect light back into space with my keys they are so shiny and smooth hah. Funny enough about that though is the letters on the keys have never worn off (I've already trashed probably 5 keyboards in the time I worked for DFI from all the testing and such...once you wear the key ink off in a couple of months and the keyboard starts acting stupid and cleaning it won't help, sorta like an old ball-mouse, then you realize just how awesome your Compaq/HP keyboard is!).

The keys are squeaking and such, getting annoying, but worse, no longer comfortable to my fingers, and that awesome tactile "feel" that it has just doesn't feel that good anymore =(

But, all the keys still function 100%, and I just cleaned it for the last time possibly but it will live on in retirement as my main test station keyboard!

ok, wore out the keys just typing this.

Btw, this is my brother's old Gateway keyboard. Has the big long Backspace button (xxxxING HATE THOSE LITTLE BACKSPACE PIECE OF . BUTTONS!!!), and it feels good. It came with his old Gateway 1.4Ghz P4 w/2x256MB RAMBUS hahahaha ;)

Amen, A_G!

I know what ya mean about keyboards! I still use an old Keytronics I found on sale with a mouse for $8 - gonna use it until the keys fall off! I just love the "feel" of the keys.
