Want to upgrade, suggestions please

I want to get a dual core processor and upgrade to two gigs of ram.

I should be getting a 8800 GT soon.

 

Few things. I don't plan on overclocking, so looking for the best stock speeds.

As for ram, at the moment, I have two sticks of 512. Should I just take those out and get 2x 1gig of ram?

 

If so can you please make a few suggestions of RAM that will work well with my motherboard.

 

I am going to wait a little and catch one the suggestions I get, on sale.

 

At this moment, it seems the older ram and 939 dual processor's are a little pricey compared to the new intel dual cores. Unless, I am not looking in the right place.

 

So any suggestions as to where to look for these parts would be great as well.

OCZ and Corsair make quality RAM; some members here swear by Teamgroup as well.

 

You're best off running 2x1Gb rather than 4x512Mb; getting 4 sticks to run well together can be a challenge.

Thanks for taking your time to write that out. The ram seems to be pricey, especially since tons of sales are going on for the newer RAM.

 

Hopefully I will see a price drop in that, but till then I will also be doing some research on the newer Intel stuff.

 

If I can get a decent combo for around $200 with a decent Intel chip and motherboard, I may just go with that.
