ShadeZeRO Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Hey everyone I have the X1950XT AGP flavour, and seem to be having performance issues. I was wondering what Drivers other AGP and ATI users have been using. I heard the latest 7.11's (or anything past 7.7) isn't too good, unless you have one of the "HD" cards. So I was wondering if it was advisable to revert to Catalyst 7.6 (or omega 7.6's). Thanks for your input.
n_w95482 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 From what I recall, anything past the 7.9s no longer fully support AGP cards. You'll either have to stick with the 7.9s or use Omega's drivers. I tried using the 7.10s with my 9800 and it wouldn't do any 3D. ShadeZeRO Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Yeah, but the 7.11's fixed that. Just the performance is shotty.
n_w95482 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Hmm, I'll have to try the 7.11s on my spare machine then, interesting find . Reverting to an older driver should be fine. The only issues I see happening are if you try playing games released after that version, like Crysis, COD4, etc. They may or may not work correctly, although chances are that they will still be playable if there are any issues. I was able to run Crysis on my spare machine with the 6.6 Catalysts, although it had pretty severe artifacts .
ShadeZeRO Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I installed the Catalyst 7.7's. Finally my source is back to 100FPS constant 1680x1050, Everything on Highest, Full HDR 4xMSAA, and 8xAF. Loving every bit of it. I didnt install CCC, as i think it's clunky and worthless. Most newer games allow you to control AF and AA, ingame. Unless they have some special feature for my card that I dont know about, I'll stick to plain 'ole drivers =] Wonder if Omega made drivers for cat 7.7's..I didn't see any.
