Homeless Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 In any game I attempt to play at any resolution / refresh rate, the game looks as if it was running at 4/5 the speed even though I have a constant framerate. Other than gaming, the monitor works flawlessly (videos, browsing, etc). I have tried numerous things such as changing graphic drivers, windows settings, and game settings with no avail. Others have suggested that I play on the native resolution instead of any other resolution, but that does not work either. I guess I should also note that I did not have this problem on my previous monitor BenQ Fp93gx. Currently running WindowsXP with monitor drivers installed and all settings at default. The monitor I am using is a dell e248wfp. I have a feeling that this is just a misconfigured setting so any insight would be helpful, thank you for your time. Homeless Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I have narrowed this down to when I attempt to use a refresh rate of 75 (at supported resolutions) in games. I play most games at [email protected] which is supposed to be supported, but when I run them at 75hz, everything begins to be choppy. Anyone know of anything that that will possibly fix this? red930 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Hi, we need a little more system specs. What video card are you using. What resolution did you game on your BenQ? Are there other refresh rates that you've tried? EDIT: You might be finding that while running a monitor at it's non-native resolution, the performance isn't as good (I'm not sure how the widescreen / non-widescreen resolution plays into this). However, 1920x1200 is a pretty beastly resolution. What games are you running? Are you using V-sync?
Homeless Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Geforce 6800nu @ 12/6 375/870. 1280x1024 on the benq. The only refresh rates I can use on this monitor are 60 and 75. Custom adding 70 or 72 isn't allowed oddly, so I have only tried those two. 1920x1200 is too much for my card and my processor, so I play on lower resolutions until I can get something capable of doing so. Games I am playing are Warcraft, call of duty 4 and counter-strike. I am currently not using vsync, however I have tried it on and off but it makes no difference. Yukon Trooper Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Are you sure it's not just because your hardware isn't up to the task? COD4 with a 6800 must be slow as sin to begin with...
MACarter02 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 It's definitely not refresh rate. 60 Hz is default because that's all your brain can register. 70-75 is just making your video card work harder. I think you have some inferior hardware for what you are trying to do. Also, 800x600 res on a game that is designed for 1280x1024 and greater isn't exactly going to flatter the picture quality. Homeless Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 cod4 runs like on crap on my computer no matter what settings I use so I use counter-strike as my benchmark as I can run it at 1920x1200 w/ 100fps. While I do agree that picture quality isn't the best, i'm still curious as to why I am unable to run games at anything higher than 60hz. While a higher refresh rate may not do much, my mouse has smoother turning motions which I find important.
Hemidare Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 If you are running a DVI (Digital Video Interface) cable you will not be able to run anything above 60hz. If it is analog then i am not sure what the problem could be although your system specs are a bit underpowered to run some of the games listed smoothly even at lower resolutions. I stole this quote from another site and forum user but cant remember what it is. Apologies. "It's usually fixed at 60Hz, because LCDs don't truly "refresh" like CRTs do. There's no flickering on an LCD, so you don't really need to worry about the refresh at all."
old_geekster Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 While a higher refresh rate may not do much, my mouse has smoother turning motions which I find important. I don't believe that the refresh rate has anything to do with the fluidity of your mouse. I would be more inclined to believe that is the mouse driver or some other problem.
