Guest ElAguila Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I installed my Q6600 SLACR G0 today. I have the setup in my sig. I am using a lapped Ultra 120 Extreme with a delta fan in my MountainMod cube case(lots of airflow). I am currently at fsb of 1710 with 8x multi for 3.4GHz. My idle temps are 35C and loaded with priming on all 4 cores is 47c. RAM is unlinked at 855 4-4-4-10 2T. I am listing my voltages below. My question is should I try for 3.6 on air or just leave it alone and take what I have. It is prime stable for 5 hours right now and that is good enough for me. Also do these voltages look okay? VCore 1.45(bios)/1.39(actual) VDIMM 2.050 CPU FSB 1.5 nForce SPP 1.45 nForce MCP 1.550 HT nForce SPP<->MCP 1.

Another thing you should reconsider are the voltages options, namely, that of the Vcore; I was able to clock my Q6600 to the same frequency with only 1.3v. Not to suggest that every board will require the same voltage, because that's obviously not true, but 1.45v seems a bit excessive. EDIT: Nice storage setup you got there.
Guest ElAguila Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 The raids are great for my video editing. This board has quite a bit of voltage issues. With it set at 1.45, the bios says the current voltage is 1.39 and so does everest and cpu-z. I am debating trying the pencil mod with it. UPDATE. I lowered the voltage just 1 setting in the bios and it would no longer boot up. It would post but not boot. Eventhough this ram will run at 950MHz at 4-4-4-12 I changed the ram settings to 5-5-5-12 and that didn't help. When I try to run at 3.5GHz I am running into a trouble spot on my fsb with this board as it won't even post. So I am wondering if there is anything else that I can change in my settings that will let me still run at 3.4GHz but lower the vcore. Well, the reason CPU-Z is reporting a lower voltage is due to vdroop. As for the other problem you might have to play around with the chipset voltages a bit, you might have to overvolt the RAM as well, try 2.1v a give yourself a bit of headroom. Guest ElAguila Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I am having some issues with board and the 9x multi on my quad. Anything in the 1450-1600 range causes the system to boot in safe mode. I am not sure what is going on there. I was thinking of doing the vdroop pencil mod tomorrow. I have an HB #2 pencil. Is that okay for the mod? s1ick Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 keep going. Like its been said try and keep the temps around the 70 mark. just to be on the safe side, but up until there go for it!
taowulf Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 How did I miss this one? yes, pencil in those resistors for the vdroop issue. I am gettign much closer to BIOS set voltages now that I have done it on my TR version of the 680i. I am running orthos again now, making sure my new mem timings are OK for stability and I am actually showing higher vcore in both CPU-Z and Speedfan. I am set at 1.525 and I am seeing 1.528 and 1.53. I can deal with that.
Guest ElAguila Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I finally was able to do the pencil mod. That made a big difference in the vdroop. Now I have my bios set at 1.425 and the actual is 1.408. That allowed me to hit 3.5GHz 8x438. Idle temps are at 34C. I just started priming. I will let you know how it goes. If I can keep the temps under 60C while priming I will try for the 3.6GHz which would be my holy grail for this cpu.
Guest r3d c0m3t Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Glad to hear that helped you out, good luck on the adventure.
Guest ElAguila Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 We will see what happens. So far the highest temp was 59C on 1 core. If it is stable for 2 hours I will try to see if I get to 3.6 and then prime for 4-6 hours and see how the temps do. UPDATE: I have a couple of questions here. with 1.45 vcore(1.44 actual) I am able to run at 3.6GHz(9x400). With these settings I am idle at 36C. Temps when priming all 4 cores reached 63C on 1 core and 61C on another and the other 2 were below 60C. Are these temps safe? Is this voltage okay to run 24/7? Guest Retratserif Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 This is why I have to get a Evga A1. I cannot find any other mobo, that does SLI and can safely get the Q6600 to 3.6, given you do the pencil mod. I will be watching this progress closely. I may just go QuadCore instead of the E6750 mainly because I have been doing so much more multi tasking lately. Also, that the last PC I built should have been dual core, but it didnt seem right at the time. Now, being that I can go Dual, I mind as well go Quad for a few bucks more. Good luck man.
