taowulf Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 The new motherboard arrived today. I have some other stuff I am waiting on, so I might not set it up this weekend. Need to finish rearranging my lab first. Nice looking board. However, I need to smack whomever decided that putting a heatpipe over on of the screw holes was a good idea. Had the same idea, lol. I still have the standoff behind the mb, just can't fit a screw past the heatpipe......doesn't seem to be a problem. Any word on taking out the heatpipes completely and leaving on the heatsinks as passive? I have done a bit of lookign around and nothing really leapt out about that. I am most concerned about the Digital PWM area.
mknwatt Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Haven't seen any mods. Just replace the heatsinks if you don't want the heatpipe. I would leave the heatpipe/heatsink setup as is, it does a decent job cooling.
taowulf Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Yeah, leaving it is an option... I just hate not having that one screw in. Anyway, I have about another week until the rest of my goodies arrive and I break everything down. I will think about alternatives to the stock mobo cooling during that time. Or just leave it as it is. So many choices.
taowulf Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I decided to not wait. Flipped the mobo. I had no idea my dog was under my desk when I took this. Working on getting it all running again.

Guest SuppA-SnipA Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 ya i wouldn't mind having that DFI i see Ghost going
taowulf Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Yep, ghost was running when I took the pic. So, while I slept, I was running orthos. 1.5v, 4Ghz 12+ hours stable out of the box. I haven't messed with memory timings yet, but this is a huge improvement over that loud butt unstable piece of crap 680i board.
