taowulf Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 As I have finally successfully ordered some new kit, I am going to finally take the plunge (ok, no more bad water puns) into watercooling. The parts i have coming are... Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Processor HH80557PJ0804MGS - EVGA nForce 680i SE SLI (TR Version) Motherboard - With a 8800 GTS to be ordered whenever the damn things come back into stock. I spent some time reading the Watercooling guide and looked around on the DangerDen site and came up with the following list. I think I have everything, I am just looking for a once over to make sure I didn't miss anything too glaring. CPU Style: Intel 775 / Conroe CPU Water Block: Danger Den MC-TDX Top Style: Lucite - Clear Video Block: MAZE5 GPU(4-hole mount) Fitting Size: 1/2 OD High Flow Fitting for 1/2 ID Tubing Radiator: Black Ice Pro II - Black Fans: 3x Yate Loon Low 120mm Pumps: DD 12V D5 1/2 OD Fittings "Fixed Speed" Tubing: 10 Feet of Tygon Thermal Paste: Arcitc Silver Ceramique Water Additives: MCT-5 Non-Conductive Fluid DD Fillport: Black Anodized Fillport and Tee Misc: 12 Hose Clamps Comments? I decided to go with a fillport and t-line as the reservoir just doesn't float my boat. Damn, I said no more puns.
radodrill Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Congrats on deciding to put your rig underwater Since you're planning on H2O cooling the GPU, you'd have to either get RAM-sinks to use in addition to the Maze5 or just get the full-cover 8800GTS block. You don't really need the hose clamps; zip-ties will work just fine. I don't think the MCT-5 is necessary; I just use pure distilled H2O with some Biocide and dye. Other than those comments, your parts list looks good So come on in; the water's fine
HITandRUN Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Nice set up you got there! Here is some changes I would do! I would buy a 3x120mm radiator if you want to cool the cpu and the gpu in one loop. For the cpu WC block I would go with the D-Tek Fuzion block. I would also look at the 8800GT instead of the GTS since the GT kicks the GTS butt and is a lot cheaper at the moment. I guess this is it! Enjoy! taowulf Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I don't know why I typed GTS, it is the 8800 GT I am going to order. I love the idea of going with somethign like a Koosah on the vid card, but that raises the price to more than i wanted to budget for. Good suggestions, I will dive back in and see what i can come up with.
radodrill Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I don't know if they have a full cover block for the 8800GT yet; either way just make sure the RAM and Vregs get proper cooling.
taowulf Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Hmm, this sucks. Switching from a 240 rad to a 360 really jumps the price up. Plus another $80 for a full cover style GPU waterblock. The ram heat sinks for the Maze4 are so cheap as to not even worry about. Those two changes send me way over $400. Which is well over 50 more than i wanted to budget for this. I am still looking and thinking though. Correction...i was looking at the wrong radiators. I can keep it close to my budget with a 360 radiator. Send me a PM when you make up your mind about you set up! Thanks!
taowulf Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Final order - and ANOTHER one that fsking Visa was being a pain about. Stupid Visa. radodrill Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Nice order; but you'll need more than the 8 RAMsinks you bought, since you'll also need sinks for the Vregs.

taowulf Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 What he said 2nd ed. CN. Was that a ditto on the CPU waterblock recommendation, the radiator or the GPU (which was a typo on my part anyway) or both? Just for the record, I ended up ordering all that I could from Danger Den so I didn't kill myself on multiple shipping charges. The MC-TDX is DD's "new" block for C2D and quads. Should work great.
