Hi Ed There are quite a few over at xtreme that have Abit, Asus & Gigabyte X38 boards but none are setting the world alight yet. I hear the Gigabyte clocks memory pretty good & I also here the Asus although doing ok has already had a board revision & still has a ton of issues that apparently are young BIOS related. I was keen on an Asus Maximus Formula or Extreme but after being well disappointed with the P5K DLX & Premium I am going to wait this one out as luckily my DFI LP P35 is playing real nice & I am not desperate for a decent board. Branjo Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Yeah Ed if it were me I'd hold off on an X38 for a little longer and let these guys "guinea pig" it out for a while. I can't see there being a huge improvement over the P35 just like the P35 isn't much ahead of the 965P when it comes to overclocking. sailindawg Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 @Edl I'm waiting out to see how the x38 boards come out regarding performance. I'm not expecting drastic performance increases over the P35. What I'mm expecting to see is cooler boards, more control over V-droop, less volts to obtain same overclock as the P35 boards and better compatibility with quad core. If I was running a P35 board currently, I would not waste the money on a X38 board, unless one has to have bleeding edge. X38 also brings the new PCIE standard, the potential to run Crossfire. Regarding this, all I care about is the newer PCIE standard that will support the newer generation vid cards. In all likelihood, I will put together a single card system with a high end newest generation vid card. I'm also interested in DDR3 support. Prices now for the DDR3 x38 are ~$100 more than the P35 boards and is likely to stay this way for a while. Hopefully DDR3 prices drop as more DDR3 boards come out. The initial OC'ing results with the Gigabyte X38/DDR3 (over at XS) board are pretty decent for a dual core. The poster was not hugely over volting the cpu to obtain >500 fsb. Stability was another thing, unfortunately. However, for such a green board and immature BIOS, there is definitely some very good performance to be had there with the X38 chipset. Thinking about buying a DFI LP UT P35 T2R My question is is there a possability that this board might run - say 3 x 2900xt? The DFI LP UT P35 T2R is no different then any other P35 chipset based board. The only possible combinations for the PCI-E slots are 16-4-1 or 16-1-1. It's a limitation of the chipset.
