Vista to vista networking

I was just wondering if anyone else is having trouble networking between 2 vista computers. When I try to transfer files between the 2 even though they are connected at 100mbps the transfer rate is goes between 2 - 10 mbps ! It takes ages to copy things over..

Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it ?

Edit : Also I have done all the classics like disabling firewalls and turning all the file sharing stuff on... I have also disabled Remote Differential Compression.

That is a known issue with Vista. Its not consistent though, as I have two Vista PC's (X32 and X64) and an XP PC on my network and I dont have an issue with slow file copy on all three PC's. Some people get it and some people dont, which is basically tha main Vista trend for issues right now.

Some things to try.. Make sue that you full caching is on in the hard drive properties in Device Manager. If those are turned off I have seen copy times increase from 5 mins to 5 hours copying the same data, so thats a big hit. Another thing to try is to install the Perfomance Hotfix that Microshaft released about a month and a half ago.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979

I have that installed on both my Vista PC's and like I said I dont have an issue copying anything, or it taking a long time. Another thing to try is to uncheck the IPV6 in the networking (Dont uninstall it, just disable it) as I seriously doubt you are using IPV6 in the first place. it may help, it may not.

Also make your you set both of your NIC's to the actual speed of your network instead of Auto. So if its 100MB Full duplex do it on both PC's

Another thing to try is this:

Disable "Receive Window Auto-Tuning " on both PC's.

To disable it, open a command prompt and type:

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Reboot

You could also try this as well (but I hear it doesnt work in most cases)

The KB931770 hotfix to fix slow network file operations is available on the web. Try here

http://thehotfixshare.net/download/index.p...B931770-x64.msu

for the x64 version, or here

http://thehotfixshare.net/download/index.p...B931770-x86.msu

for the x86 version

This issue is "supposedly" going to be truly fixed with SP1, of which you could get the beta of right now, but I woudnt advise it personally.
