Guest Blooz1 Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 A recent warning by Apple that future software updates could cause unlawfully unlocked phones to stop working is proving to be true: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7017660.stm http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/09/27/ip...p?lsrc=mwtoprss There are also numerous reports of the update also causing problems on totally unmodded phones. Was this done maliciously? Opinions vary widely - here's a sample: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/question-of-the...fect-305114.php So, what do you think? Pure spite on Apple's part, or sheer coincidence?

Thasp Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 How the fvck is it unlawful to unlock an iPhone? I don't have one. I don't even want the cellphone I have. If I own the hardware, and what I am doing with said hardware is not physically harming others, how can this possibly be against the law? It's DRM, protected by the DMCA, which was voted for by the entire senate, all of whom belong in nooses for their disservice to this country. It never ceases to fascinate me how bills like this can be voted for unanimously. That kind of makes you think some of them are accepting bribes. likewhoa Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 DMCA protects individuals from lawsuits against unlocking their hardware but it does not protect individuals from selling software that unlocks hardware. IIRC

The DMCA doesn't count, no one listens to that crap and it's a pathetic joke of legislation.
Guest SuppA-SnipA Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 thats how companies make their money, they lock the phones so u'd have to pay roaming. motorolas are really moddable, and easy as hell to unlock, sony ericsson's are a total different story tho, the thing with the iphone is that its not a REAL unlock, from the guides i read, its emulated, not really what u want
