TheReaper Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Hi, some of you will have read my previous posts about this system of mine running slow, with delays opening windows such as "my computer" etc, alot of you have been excellent with your help, thanks to all for that... i have a new thoery, is it possible that a brand new SataII hdd can be faulty even if it runs with XP Pro and apps, is successful with disk error scans within windows, passes all hardware scans and comes up smelling of roses? i've had 2 systemwide failures and failures to boot etc so can my C: sataII have hardware probs that don't show up in scans? is there a third party scan tool for hardware/hdd??????? TheReaper Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 just tried that downloaded tool from the site, first it wouldn't load, then wouldn't fit on disk, then it wouldn't boot in dos mode, then it crashed my system. the xp diskcheck is useless. Coors Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Have you tried reinstalling windows?
TheReaper Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 not yet, i was just about to say should i reinstall windows? is there any way of doing that where i don't have to format?, years ago i installed xp pro over the top of another by accident & it seemed to work as if there was only 1 and it left my other progs as they were. Coors Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 The best way to do it is to backup your files and do a clean install. I never do "upgrade" installs.

Darkorb Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 i would just get all the files i need, and burn it onto a DVD. or since i have so many ipods, i just use that as an External HD and store it there

uneedav8 Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 You may also try to update the SATA contollers drivers...whether intel, promise or nvidia, etc. It is possible it has loaded generic ms drivers. It would say in the device manager under driver details which one is loaded.
