ReelFiles Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Posting any illegal means of obtaining copyrighted materials will be dealt with, so think twice before posting. When I was repairing laptops, I noticed that HP preinstalls Vongo on their machines, I was curious if anybody has ever used their services or similar ones. I am interested in download speed, format, quality and price. Also if they have any quirks, like DRM or anything else that would limit you from playing the files multiple times or on more than one machine. If you don't know how to check the video quality download media info HERE , chose the 'Microsoft Windows95 to Microsoft WindowsXP, IA32' link and chose either the installer or the version without an installer. Just install or run it with the default options, depending which one you downloaded. Right click on the media file and chose mediainfo. I find that if you click 'view' and select 'Text' it's easiest to see, copy and paste all the necessary info. Thanks in advance
CPDMF Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 My sister has netflix, I'll see if she wouldn't mind downloading a movie this morning. I'm more curious as to the d/l speed, pretty sure I can get to blockbuster and back before it finishes though..
radodrill Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 There would have to be some good Legal download sites. We really should have a thread listing them. I sometimes check out movies at the university library (no rental fees ) but downloading them would be easier
Angry_Games Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 ya we get the regular dvd delivery from netflix but I've always wondered about their download stuff...but I hate sitting in front of a computer to watch movies. ReelFiles Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Thanks CP, definitely let us know how it works out. BTW I got that CPU today. Travis, sit in front of a computer to watch movies? That's what HTPCs are for, hehe. There are also many sites listing Public Domain movies like this one: http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/nshowc...ml?category=ALL These films are no longer owned by the original creator/copyright holder and are legal to download. AnUnknownSource Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 www.movieflix.com - If you like B and C rate movies, you'll like them, lol A lot of older movies that noone wanted the rights to anymore too, lol. Download speeds 4 years ago were good, but video quality wasn't that great... Most TV shows have some sort of official website to download episodes at... that's free and legal... Thasp Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Get an antenna and a $100 TV capture card, altogether with a good antenna $50. Enjoy free high def with no DRM to your heart's content.

Netflix streams the movies to your pc with DRM in place but the quality is really good and I haven't seen it buffer except at the very beginning of the movie. ReelFiles Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Oh, so it's a one time viewing thing. Would be cool if you could actually download it to view it multiple times or on different machines.
oc newbie Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Yeah and they limit the number of movies you can watch a week or month something like that. As a bonus to those who already have the service it is pretty cool but I wouldn't look at it as a reason to get netflix. It is a good way to preview a movie to see if its worth renting though but pretty limited selection of movies too.
ReelFiles Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Not exactly what I had in mind, especially not considering tjeyy limit how many movies you can watch... lame. How much does this cost, any idea on bitrate, resolution or sound quality? Greatly appreciate the info, thanks
