any reason my hardware setup should run slow?

Recommended Posts

thanks guys, how do i check to see if the graphics card isn't still using the mcrosft drivers?

tried jumping up the fsb to 300 and multi to 8 but it wouldn't boot up.

yes the graphic card is in the top pci e slot, it's been there since the start but i tried the lower one but no change.

Right click your desktop, select properties.

chose the Settings tab in Display properties.

Click advanced then select the adapter tab, click properties.

Select the driver tab.

I think this is unlikely to be your problem but worth checking.

What condition are your HDD's in? You can use Speedfan to get a report on how well they are doing.

This would be a good time to think about backing up your data too.

hi guys, yes it's definately using the new ati drivers version 8.391.0.0

the main hdd is a new sata2 at normal tempi have learned from a few people that my graphics card, although its a pro 512mb card, is not good for gaming but i would still think it would run older games above 800x600 which it doesn't, i do alot of didtal video editing for which this card was recommended by the outlet, could the card make opening a window slow?

hi, technohydra wrote "Also, if you're using Norton Utilities, or any antivirus or active spyware prevention software, remove them. All they do is eat resources 90% of the time, and not a little either. Lots of em."

i did this but imediately got a virus, the system wouldn't let me do anything and kept rebooting. i managed to put acg back on and it found 14 infections within the hour.

how can i avoid viruses/spyware without protection? as any infection causes system lag or response failure. would love to run my pc without anti-virus software, how is that possible?

i never ever go anywhere near porn sites of any kind so they come from general net.

Good browsing habits and a decent firewall will keep most stuff off your PC. You don't say how you connect to the internet- - hardware firewalls are better but software wise look at ZoneAlarm, Sygate Personal. (Zonealarm if pretty user friendly).

Looking at this http://www.hothardware.com/articles/Asus_E..._On_Tap/?page=7

your graphics card is woefully underpowered for gaming - good for vids though. Also it shouldn't affect starting apps.

Do all apps suffer this problem even notepad, solitaire?

If you got 14 infections without going anywhere to get them then you must of already had them and your AV wasnt letting them run but wasnt deleting them either.

Thing about viruses is they are wrote to counteract the most common security apps people use. Norton and Zone Alarm would be the most targeted I reckon. I'm sure a virus or script was wrote to constantly reboot a machine. some viruses can even survive a format

You need to sort out the virus problem first that may be buried in one of your drives.

Get rid of as many Xp services as you can. Is your Pagefile the right size?

Are you running windows, games and/or programs all from the same physical disk?

Try windows on one HDD with a 20Gb partition at the start and use the rest of the disk for storage and run your games/programs from the IDE or vice versa if you prefer.

The G/card isnt really a gaming card. apart from the memory its pretty much on par with mine and I can't even run Vegas....no SM3.0 support :( I bought it ages ago too.

But all that aside your rig shouldnt feel sluggish at all you have a killer CPU, enough RAM and good mobo. Keep trying dude I bet its something very simple you are overlooking.

How much time and money for an ASUS RMA?
