Bioshock - 4-6 reviewers needed...form committee here

Recommended Posts

ya I hate having anything 'call home'

especially MS operating systems. On any software honestly.

I have to install crap way too much to go through this nonsense. For the most part, on OS installs for testing, I just never activate as the load will rarely last more than 7-14 days, and definitely never more than 30 unless I forget to wipe it and the rig/hdd gets put away somewhere.

For a game...there's no way I'll ever accept such nonsense. When I buy a game, it is mine. If I want to play it, then let my girlfriend install it and play it, then loan it to my friends to play it, I'm not going to let ANY software company tell me I cannot.

Because I damn sure can, and if they persist in telling me I cannot, then I simply stop buying PC games and software, and use my Xbox360 or other gaming consoles where I most certainly CAN loan it to anyone I want to loan it to, play it anywhere i want to play it, etc. Software I can simply find free stuff to use (linux, open office, etc etc).

It really burns me.

And no review site I know of has mentioned this about Bioshock...because most review sites...well...you can insert any amount of what you think I might be thinking about review sites in general here lol.

GASP if they mentioned this and made a big deal out of it, they might GASP never get an exclusive or pre-release again!!! OMG!

(actually I guess it would be "o noes!")

I haven't had any issues with the game yet but I bought the steam version I have used in it XP and Vista. To say the activation process was annoying is an understatement, it was claiming to be preloaded then it needed to download more and that took 45 min to get it installed and working. Sorry but that is just plain stupid. It should have ben automatic. I will be upgrading to quad core tonight we will see if it causes any issue.

Great game it looks much better in Vista for some reason- I am wondering if it is just a driver issue with a 1080P monitor or they just have diffrent textures. There are not enough diffrent effects to explain it. Some people seem to be unhappy with the wide screen support- you have a more close up view. The full screen is used though so I am not sure it is any kind of real problem or just an excuse to classy lady. The game really could use some higher quality textures in widescreen at 1080P. I dont know what kind of memory a card would need to run the bigger files the game deserves or how huge the game would be size wise. The game is already large on the HDD. We may need blue ray disks just for all the files at this rate. Too bad Nvidia did not manage to get the drivers together in time for Vista for on the fly video card memory sharing now we have to wait for the next set of cards to be mainstreem before games decide to fully use it.

After playing through 3-4 hours of the game I dont really notice the FOV issue. Really you see whats in front of you. Sure its not as much as most would like, but, its not a glaring issues either.

Currently I am playing on a Samsung 216BW and comparing whats viewable with this screen to my old Toshiba 27" CRT TV, I dont see all that big of a difference.

I guess if anyone is interested I could try and put together a set of pictures to show the real difference.

The cutdown pictures are on XS in the news section..

I guess it's one of those things that people notice when fully told, not as big a deal as the 2 installation limit. Thing being, once you spot a major flaw all the others become big too.

Also heard there is no anti-aliasing so the PC users feel that the developer did not put enough time into specialising the PC version to take advantage of the extra processing power of high end graphics cards..

i feel as A_G does on the- **** a company that will not let you have what you pay for...when i purchase a game, i should be able to do what i wish after that point. not gonna start a rant or anything, but i WILL wait to purchase this game UNTIL we can come to a conclusion with this 2x install matter. On a lighter note, got the demo, was not enough game play to get a good idea of the overall game, but looked good. played good on my system with only 1 gig ram, [email protected], 7800gt.....need to get that other gig of ram

need to update sig :)

I wonder how much of an issue that is at 1920x1200.

But that really sucks a lot for lower resolutions, can it still be activated through nvidia/ati control panel?

even at 1920X1080 you can still pick up the jaggies, I play on my 40" Sny at max res, and at that size you need the AA.. Still see them a bit on the 24" Dell too..

Well that's no good. Fortunately I don't have to worry much about it, I'm only using a 7900GTO for the moment and I doubt it'd much like AA at that resolution.

As far as the 360 version is concerned I havent noticed any issues with AA...For a console game it looks pretty good. Of course thats just for a console game.

keep in mind that the and gpu in the 360 is better than what you have in your rig (other htan you have TWO ATI gpu's working together, but the gpu inside the 360 is a step up from the X1900 gpu, especially with the 10MB embedded DRAM right on the gpu core)

the 360 was made to run 720p w/full AA/AF enabled (1280x720). This is a requirement of all games for the 360 console (however developers do not have to enable AA, but all games have to run at least 720p).

Now that the Unreal3 engine is out in the wild, we'll see lots of refinement to it, mostly in making it look better/sharper while making it run faster (optimizations, tweaks, etc...like any game engine, once it has been out a while, it starts to look better and run better as devs get more time on it).

I'm still reeling from the 2-install call-home bs as well as lack of proper widescreen FOV (since it is proper in the 360 version)
