Wondering if i have a bad board.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

havent posted in a long time.

Having trouble with my expert, hoping you can give some expert advice!

I havent been able to even narrow down this problem let alone solve it, and i know there are some masters here.

I have the dfi-expert and an opty 165.

using a OCZ Gxstream 700w psu.

I seem to have various issues with the board.

They seem to happen randomly, without pattern, so let me give you a rundown of the issues i seem to have

When i power my machine, these are my different outcomes.

- computer doesnt post. 3red lights on the light readout on the board.

- computer boots but says the device settings have changed. unable to select f1 or del from the keyboard. (keyboard lights up, but not responsive, doesnt matter if i unplug and replug it in.)

- computer boots and gets past the windows screen and sits black.

- computer boots into windows but the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive.

- computer boots into windows and works fine. ( this will work as long as i need it to, but if i leave it overnight, i will come back to a blank unresponsive screen.

When i start up my computer, it usually takes a few tries to get it up and going.

Ive had and fixed more than my share of problems, but this one has me stumped.

Anyone??

thanks

Andrew

ps i dont have the pc o/cd at all sitting at its norm of 1.8

a few other outcomes i forgot to add in.

boots thru to a bsod machine check exception last octet 000070f07

or it boots to a black screen after loading up windows waits a few minutes and then boots up.

I have added a sata dvd drive as well, not sure if that might be causing the troubles.

I'd guess that it's CPU or possibly RAM related. Can you test them in a known good system; or swap in known good components?

another problem (related?) i am having over the last month is that i am having an extreme amount of trouble with my dlink wireless.

The network device will just disappear under the network connections tab.

Or when i start up the machine i dont even seen the network connector come up in the irqs.

A reboot usually solves these problems.

thought it might be the sata cord that was causing the issues.

used a new one, same result bsod (machine check expection.)

i have now unplugged the sata cord from the mobo, will see if it happens again.

Are you running on an O/C? If so bring it back to stock and see if you still get the same problem. Are you memtest stable - enable it in the BIOS and allow it to run overnight. If you aren't then post back and we'll try to get it sorted. Do you have anything on AUTO in your Genie Settings? If so, this may be the cause of your issues. These boards can be quite picky with some of the secondary timings. What about Prime/Orthos? Are you 12hr stable in this also - once you can boot or course?

as for the mobo, i have everything running on default settings.

figured it was the network card, so i bought a new one to test in its place.

If i run the pc with no pci card it never has any trouble, where when i have a network card installed it bsods on me every time, but in a random amount of minutes.

it is doing it with the new wifi card as well, and if noone else has any ideas, im going to rma the board

anyone know the process or the warranty period on the experts?

Clear the CMOS, load defaults boot enter BIOS put the correct Volts for your RAM and reboot. Make sure the RAM is In the orange slots.

You may need to Searching the Stock Speed Database (SSDB) and try some other memory timings.
