1U server temp problems

I have put together a 1U Linux server with a 775 2.6 Celeron and I am having a hard time keeping this thing cool. The 1U chassis is ok and has what I figured to be enough vents to cool things. It has a couple of 40mm fans on the front and a loud blower fan on the side. On the CPU is of course a low profile copper heatsink with a blower fan as loud as a leaf blower. I first set the BIOS for shutdown if the processor reaches 55c and now changed it to 60c and the thing still shuts down after a little while. It has large vents right above the CPU socket. The weather have been pretty hot lately and the AC fully blasted tries to keep the house at 77 degrees. I would put a Coolit eliminator on this thing if there was some way I can get it to be self contained in the 1U chassis. I'm sick of it shutting down. Whats a good shut down temp to set in the BIOS for this CPU....60c?? Any recommendations on what I can do to cool this down?? Thanks

I would double check the heatsink to make sure it is properly seated. We've got a bunch of 1u servers at work and the server room at it's coolest is around 77. You should have a fan blowing right across the heatsink...if you don't then make sure you put a fan there. I have some squirrel cage type fans for 1u servers if you need one.

Yeah you are going to want a lot of airflow directly across that heatsink block like momoceio said. Every 1U server I have ever heard has sounded like a leaf blower. You really have to force a lot of air through such a small form factor to get any cooling performance. Usually you will have 4 or 5 deep 40mm fans right in between the HDD pack plane and the CPU block. I would also try and reapply and re-seat your CPU block just in case.

What about modding the top of the case for a low profile 120mm fan, is there enough clearance, or is it pretty much packed out? Probably not, so what about mounting an external fan? Some pics of your setup would help ;)
