CharmedLover84 Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Hi all, got a simple question that's for a friend. Is it possible to run two installs of XP at once from the same CD, on the same computer (different partitions of course)? Basically they're wanting to get the new one stable before they axe the old one, but the main thing is it would be the same copy of XP, not different ones like I have done in the past, hence why I'm unsure and wanted to ask. Thanks
n_w95482 Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Yes, it is possible with multiple partitions . The only confusing part would be the boot menu, which then you would have to figure out which one was which and edit the boot.ini file accordingly. CharmedLover84 Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Okay... we know it's possible, the question is, will one Windows become "invalid" by installing the other LOL sorry I shoulda been more clear.
n_w95482 Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 No, both will work independently of each other.
General Septem Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Basically it will be as if they are installed on two separate machines. You shouldn't have much of a problem validating it. I've reinstalled my copy of XP many times.
krazypoloc Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Just make sure you tag the different copy's in the .ini file. Say you put "old" and "new" right after the windows XP pro or "1" and "2". Just so long as you can destinguish betwixt the two when you go to boot up your OS.
