Need to make money while staying home.

Hi everyone,

So heres the deal, reel works, and I am home with the babie, but we need more income coming in. I can not get a part time job because then we would be spending it all on the day care for Sam. We talked about sending him to day care full time but it costs allot and we don't want someone else raising him. I would be able to get a part time job if we had family that lived near us. The closest family we have live 2-3 hours away, but if any family besides my parents watch him I would have to pay them which does not work. Dose anyone have any suggestions on how I can make some money? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My parents are moving down here but not for a 1 or 2 years, which does not help us now.

I'd look into doing some basic PC repairs.

Virus, Spyware, and hardware fixes.

At this point there isn't a whole lot of money to be had in building custom PCs, sure you might be able to make some money on the parts, but then you have to think about warranties, Labor costs, software, etc.

But one of the guys I work with does some basic repair as a side job and actually makes a decent amount on it.

Thank you for your help. Reelfiles is the computer tech, I do not know much about fixing or building computers. but he can put signs up around our community (we live in an apartment complex community) and fix computers on the side. Thank you.

I have a B.B.A. in Business management, I have experience with tutoring and baby sitting. I was just thinking do you all think that I should put signs up too saying that I am available for tutoring? what do you guys think would that work if reel put signs up to fix computers and I put signs up for tutoring? I would put sings up for baby sitting but reel said that he does not want other kids in the house because they will destroy his computers, he said our son does enough of that :)

If you're into tutoring and have the time for it then certainly do it. Most parents want the best for their little monsters and if they can afford a tutor they probably would.

I would keep the signs very distinct so there is a clear distinction between the computer stuff and the tutoring. I would go as far as strongly suggesting that you make the tutor signs look professional based on the theory that if you can afford good advertising then someone is paying for your stuff so it must be worth a look (my theory anyway).

I hope it all works out for you and would be genuinely interested to know how it goes. I fully appreciate the problem of not having folks nearby - my mum refuses to stay with us because my brother would probably kill her dog due to neglect.

Well I've had my on PC repair business before and it went OK, but I am not sure if I feel like dealing with more PCs after a full day of fixing laptops at work, besides that I have my own rigs to worry about. I might get into it again for friends, but I am not sure if I feel like dealing with computer illiterate old people again, it can be quite aggravating.

I'd rather my wife get a side gig going, since she stays home all day anyway. She's pretty good at tutoring. I told her she should get some references from the college she used to tutor for. Like she said, I don't want other kids in my home, jr does enough damage by himself.

Are there any legitimate work-from-home programs, like word processing or billing? I know most of them are bs, but supposedly there are a few good ones out there.

Hey ...

I have been thinking about this myself...I think I am going to start in the Herbal side of things and start selling Xanga on the side...you can check it out on the dot com...I have a friend with a direct connect and will be closer to the top of the chain than what you'll find in a search...pretty much 4th down from the top rather than 9th like you find on the net...

It's the same kind of thing like any net business in that the more people you recrute the more you make...but if you research thru pub med and the fact that the business it almost #1 in a 4 year stretch is crazy...I spent 3 days in just searches looking at all sides of it...

No BS just facts...

Other than that I wouldnt want to do PC work at home...I do it here but I dont advertise or put up signs...I dont want people know I got stuff here...A sign maybe an invitation for a break-in...?

I am so with you on not wanting other kids in the house...it's fine if your own kid breaks stuff but when other kids do it...parents tend to get pissy if you charge them for it...and most of the parents dont want their kids corrected...

When I did it I used to tell them if you dont want your children spanked dont bring them here...If they screw up I'll treat them like my own...If they are good they'll never get a spanking from me...

It's too much to deal with stupid parents after dealing with unrully kids...

Boy I could tell some nighmare tales on this subject...;)

My aunt works from home and processes billing info for Charter Communications. She creates the pamphlets and such that are mailed out with the bills also. If you could find a job like that then you'd be set...she gets paid pretty well for it too. Her job provided her a laptop and everything. She just VPN's into their network and does whatever she needs...pretty cool setup.

since you got a degree, you have more options working from home than most (other the scams about buying and selling real-estate or ebay etc lol).

Figure out what you REALLY like doing, and tell us. Whatever you really love to do might not sound like it could be done from home, but almost anything can be done from home.

Tell us what you really want to do and we'll help ya figure something out ;)

(got to stay positive!)
