Praz Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I haven't ran any in a 680i board. Maybe in a couple of weeks. I'll run them at whatever voltage is necessary while benching. I'm prepared to face the outcome. lol For 24/7 ram should be kept no higher then 2.2V on 680i boards.
CharmedLover84 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 So 2.2V is safe? or should I do around 2.1 and see if I can get'em to boot at the correct timings?
CharmedLover84 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 It's not save to run any memory in any 680i board at 2.4V. The 680i chipset has, does and will kill ram when run at that voltage regardless of cooling. Edit: To answer your question about watercooling, they will work just fine without it. But if you are determined to run them at 2.4V watercooling will prolong their death. On any other chipset the watercooling is not necessary if the voltage is kept within specs. Actually i asked specifically because I don't want to liquid cool them LOL I'll have enough tubing to deal with with just my CPu cooled in my opinion. CharmedLover84 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 And off topic question, how the frell do I get an Avatar? LOL
CharmedLover84 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Testing this OCZ stuff at 5-5-5-15-2T @ 2.2Vs at 1000MHz, passed every 3DMark with flying colors, FIRST TIME I have been able to get UNLINKED to boot in to Windows EVER. If it passes, I'll crank it up to 1100 just to see if it'll pass LOL Doubt it will, I just hope it passes like this, cuz the score increases, while small, are noticable... and the RAM throughput differences on Everest are definitely not small. I shoulda tested FEAR before I started Prime... ah well LOL
CharmedLover84 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Okay my testing failed at 2 hours, 42 minutes of Prime with the ram at 5-5-5-15-2T @ DDR2-1000 (this is the new OCZ PC2-800) @ 2.2Vs, all other settings except those for the ram are identical. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe turn down the RAM voltage first, if that don't work, maybe FSB voltage now that it's no longer on auto? Whatcha think folks? Should I set back to DDR2-800 3-4-4-15 @ 2.0V and see if it'll test out there or try and get this stable? Maybe since it failed after 2 hours I just need a voltage bump on my CPU due to the RAM being running faster at semi-tight (I guess for that speed at least) timings. I'll think about it. CharmedLover84 Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showpost.p...72&postcount=73 ~~~ OCDB entry with the OCZ Flex... I'm gonna install liquid cooling tonight/tomorrow and shoot higher, but the RAM is very... fidgety.

CharmedLover84 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Out of 6 different settings I tried (INCLUDING WHAT IT LISTS ON OCZs WEBSITE AS STOCK) the only way I could get it to test stable, aka in that OCDB Entry, is to set it to what I did, which is not stock, nor stock timings, but is technically stock voltage... On another note, got my DD block in today and installed it, nearly frying my processor in the process (Saw a temp of 85C in BIOS before I hit the power button as fast as I could and redid it to discover the thermal paste was not in contact, ended up having to put the block on what I consider sideways), but I'm now reporting idle temps of 24-30C (Core#1 (2nd core) is the one reading out at 30, sometimes), and my temp max during 3DMark06 was 44C. That's at 3.333GHz, my usual max temp during 3DMark06 was 57-60C on air. We'll see how it does in Orthos later after I figure out my ram settings again ::Goes to look at her OCDB entry::
CharmedLover84 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Just finished every test at 3.666GHz @ 1.425Vs (except of course the most important Prime95/3Dmark01SE) and temps are still very managable. Hopefully this voltage is enough to make this truely Prime stable. We shall see. Honestly I was expecting it to fail 3DMark03 but it ate it alive (nearly got 64K). We'll see in 8 hours I guess lol gonna run the FEAR benchmark then start Primin' and hope for a lucky guess on this clocking to start with. CharmedLover84 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Well, 3.666GHz is mine, as stated in my sig, 17 hours prime stable baby I'm thinking about swapping RAM just for the hell of it... here are my current choices (what I'm looking at), advice would be appriciated (price is not a concern): 1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227196 2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820220233 3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820178167 4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820313009 5. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820146686 6. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227184 If everyone could, post your opinion and which you'd get... I'm goin' for speed if you haven't noticed These having crappy (at least in my opinion) timings at a mediocre speed is bugging me. I may try and clock them up but honestly, I'm kinda sick of running Prime95 for the month already LOL
CharmedLover84 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 And as of right now, I'm leaning towards the... ::Smacks herself for even saying it:: PNY because it's the only one that doesn't have a 2.3V, which I want to avoid going over 2.2 with this board due to several warnings I've gotten about it eating ram alive LOL Is PNY DDR2 better than their DDR1? I've heard several horror stories about their old DDR400 frying itself and boards along with it (I saw it once). But if that DDR2-1173 is decent, might just be my ticket to faster ram at decent timings.
