sparkyftw Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Ok so I have a case that I am modding for HTPC and I ran into a problem. I have to use a MATX psu, and I am getting a 300w Powmax. Is this enough power to run an matx board, capture card, a couple hard drives, and like a cd/dvd burner? Other option is an ATX board with like a 5200 gpu and 2 capture cards and the same with hard drives and a burner or 2. Should I have power problems? AnUnknownSource Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 That 300should power either setup just fine... matx boards draw less power, and you could go for a mobile cpu for further power reductions....
Coors Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Just reading the name Powmax in a sentence makes me shudder. I've heard some not so great things about their products. Like their psu's going out and taking other hardware with them.
AnUnknownSource Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I've head that about Raiders players too ;-)
sparkyftw Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 haha well I spent a lot of time in the shop today with the case I want to use and I think I can fit an atx board and a normal psu in there too, but I would have to water cool the cpu, which I can fit in there too or I could go Matx
dr_bowtie Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 what are you wanting to do with the pc when done..? if all you are using it for is htpc then definately use a mATX board... The only reason to go full ATX is so you have more PCI slots and sata ports..
sparkyftw Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I would probably use it just to record shows and stuff, then move the files over to my main computer to watch it on.
ooeric Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 its for a tv,, why worry about fancy? as long as it plays and record a crappy name doesnt mean its a crappy component i had and made PCs since the pentium3 days that used your off name brand stuff. and alot of it is still running today. so ya, you dont need to listen to people and their sermons about bad name hardware.
