mungo Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 hi finally got my opty 165 to boot up at 3ghz but i cant quite manage to get it stable. had to reduce the htt from 3x to 2.5x to get it to windows. ram is crucial ballistix pc4000 ddr500 and timings are DRAM Voltage Control.......................... - 2.68v DRAM Configuration Settings: DRAM Frequency Set............................ - 166=RAM/FSB:05/06 Command Per Clock (CPC)....................... - Enable CAS Latency Control (Tcl)..................... - 3 RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd)..................... - 3 Min RAS# active time (Tras)................... - 8 Row precharge time (Trp)...................... - 3 Row Cycle time (Trc).......................... - 9 Bus Clocks Row refresh cyc time (Trfc)................... - 16 Bus Clocks Row to Row delay (Trrd)....................... - 03 Bus Clocks Write recovery time (Twr)..................... - 03 Bus Clocks Write to Read delay (Twtr).................... - 02 Bus Clocks Read to Write delay (Trwt).................... - 03 Bus Clocks Refresh Period (Tref)......................... - 3120 Cycles DRAM Bank Interleave.......................... - Enabled DQS Skew Control.............................. - Disabled DQS Skew Value................................ - 0 DRAM Drive Strength........................... - Weak (level 5 i think) DRAM Data Drive Strength...................... - Level 1 Max Async Latency............................. - 10 NanoSeconds DRAM Response Time............................ - Auto Read Preamble Time............................ - 7.5 NanoSeconds IdleCycle Limit............................... - 16 Cycles Dynamic Counter............................... - Enabled R/W Queue Bypass.............................. - 8 x Bypass Max.................................... - 04 x 32 Byte Granularity........................... - Disable(4 Bursts) on 166 divider its at 273 mhz and passes memtest test 5 for 15 passes with no errors. is there any of thoose timings that look like tehy could be changed to get stable? Guest element Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Make sure the HTT us under or close to 1000MHz. Search out what volts you need for those rather tight timings. Perhaps lax out to 4-4-4-10 ? or so. experiment!
Coors Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 First you need to find out if the cpu is stable by running the ram at close to default by dropping your divider. I used to have the exact same stepping Opty 170 and I also was able to boot into windows at 3ghz but was only able to prime it for about 20 minutes before it would fail. And I tried everything all the way up to 1.65 volts.
