Hemidare Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Just curious if i can mount this on my board with a 165 dual core cpu without the IHS? I have heard with the clip on CPU coolers you can clip it on and just slowly screw down the retainer until snug. Is this possible or is there someone that has done it with this CPU with no hat and Cpu cooler? Thanx if i have to when it comes in i can put the IHS back on. Hemidare Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Anything in particular i need to watch out for? Do i need to shave anything off of the mount? Or just leave it the way it is? And the method i described is that suitable?

carholmes Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 You might end up seeing better temps with a new bolt-through heatsink compaired to using a XP-120. If you had a bolt through cooler I'd say go for it. Think of it this way, a good cpu cooler costs $50-$60, but if something goes wrong a new duel core cpu costs around $100, maybe more for a good 165. Before you do anything at least try that method of mounting you described on your opty 144 without wiggling the base of your XP-120.
