Jachyra007 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 They are almost as easy to setup, if not easier. If you plan on using multiple hard drives, make sure to only have one hooked up and running during install. Windows will try to put itself on both drives, and without one you won't be able to boot up.

Kingfisher Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 a sata dvd drive can be installed without a problem, just make sure your have an available sata port to use. You don't need any drivers from a floppy or cd to install windows on a non-RAID hard drive. When you get to the screen that says to press f6 to install third party drivers don't worry, you won't need to take any action. You should'nt have any problems. taowulf Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 80gb more than ill ever need. This is an erroneous statement. There is no such thing as "more than I will ever need" when it comes to HDDs. SATA drives = no master/slave cable select!!!! Can't tell you how many times I buggered that up with PATA drives in the last 20 years. Oh yeah, the slimmer cables are a nice feature, but the downside is that mobo manufacturers put them in the ODDEST places. I had a Gigabyte that had them sandwiched between the AGP and PCI slots. An Asus I had put them between the AGP and the CPU socket...I had to remove the AGP card if I needed to remove the cables. Or did I get that backwards? Whatever. Anyway, good luck on your HDD upgrade.
shatteredsteel Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 awesome thanks i am just going to get this cheap one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822145082 Good Choice on the drive, I'm using two of them in a poor man's RAID for my mail server, haven't had a problem yet, although the two I ordered came with different rated storage capacities. 81.6 GB for one, 82.3 GB for the other. I had both of my SATA hard drives installed and it only installed to my one HD.
JackOrlowski Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I made the switch to all sata about 2 weeks ago when i got a lite-on CD/dvd reader and a CD/DVD burner. When I did my win XP install I only had the sata cd/dvd reader and the sata raptor hooked up. CD/DVD on sata 1 and HDD on sata 2. After I installed I put my HDDs on sata 1 & 2 and the optical drives on on 2 & 3. On the initial startup I had to set it to boot off the raptor instead of my media HDD. red930 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 If you don't want to do a fresh installation of Windows you can clone your existing drive to the new one with Ghost or any of the other cloning apps like Drive Image, etc. I've done it between SATA and IDE drives with no problems as long as the mobo has native SATA support. Most manufacturers have a cloning tool available although when I did a quick Google search I could only find one included with their laptop HDs. Might be worth looking around.
