SlipknotXF Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Well yeah Vista is new and its got its ups and downs I like how it looks yada yada So vista -64 is a lil snappier flipping through windows drives whatever els but when you open a game??!! Why the hell does the 32-bit version of vista run games better? lol SO if any one knows what I can do in vista to make it run better you will have been a god send. Maybe its the drivers I dunno but other than that it runs great. BTW both versions were Ultimate.
uneedav8 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I know what you mean......I tried really hard to like Vista but could not. I tried both 32 and 64 and had to go back to XP for the responsiveness. http://www.tweakvista.com/VistaPerformanceTweaks.aspx
Coors Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 32 runs games better than the 64 bit version because they are 32 bit games and with a 64 bit OS it has to emulate a 32 bit environment to play the games. Or at least thats the best explanation that I have read.
SlipknotXF Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Hehe yeah I guess since vista does take more resources emulation may lag it heh its not like its a constant either but at times it gets pretty bad I just wanted halo 2 to run smooth the other day in 32 bit it ran 100% smooth then here in 64 I had figured it to run about the same but holy its irritating. But no matter I guess >_< I hate Microsoft so much. Wish Linux had more software support it runs TONS better.
green-man Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 im not sure about games, but 64bit OS has problems with software thats using 16bit code. 64bit can only run 32 or 64bit & 32bit OS can only run 16-32bit. autoruns on installation disc's are normally using 16bit code for example, its just much easyer to program. i dont know bugger all about programing myself, so i dont know if what im saying is right, its just what ive read after using XP pro 64bit. So until graphics card manufacturers can make a driver to get past the Vista limitation all games will be a little slower. Guest Pollushon Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 The lag in performance has absolutely nothing to do with Vista's version of DX9. I think possibly there is a misconception of emulation from a lack of (accurate) information available. It has everything to do with the Drivers that interact with the Hardware and the OS. The version of DirectX 9 running on Vista has only one change from XP's version - Direct3D 9Ex - it is a new version of Direct3D that allows access to the new capabilities of the Vista WDDM driver model but retains all the facets of the previous Direct3D Driver Model in XP. This is merely an extension to what already exists and in that light nothing has changed about the way that DirectX9.0 functions. The only thing that will improve performance is time. We quickly forget what XP was like in its early days and the fact that it took 5 years to get it right. Now driver manufacturers have to contend with 2 mainstream platforms and the x64 aspect is mostly unchartered territory. I hate Microsoft so much. Wish Linux had more software support it runs TONS better. Spoken like a true nOOb.

Just wondering how much ram do you have? I know when I was beta testing Vista with the 32bit 1gig of ram held up ok but in 64bit I had to get more ram because I had more lag issues. I have to say HL2 with the 64bit download update runs very sweet.
badarthur Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 The reason your having problem's is you dont have near enough ram on your system. I dont know about your video card but your processor is ok. It's just your ram that is deficent I would think about 2 to 4 gig if you have 4 ram slot's add 2X1Gig stick's that would give you 3 gig Im going to be doing that myself really soon as 3 gig dosent give you the problenm's that 4 dose.
