TheNewGuy 2 Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Hello, I've been snooping around here for quite awile now and I have managed to get most of my questions answerd. However I have several questions that I cant seem to find a good answer for. I'll just list them one by one and hopfully some of you can help me out. 1: I have allready folowed all the instructions and installed atitool and got the GPU temps to register on MBM5 but now I would like to add the clock speeds as well. I know that this can supposibly be done on a nvidia card but I have an ATI. (2: Is there a way to monitor the ram temps with MBM5? how do you all monitor your RAM temps? I have a fan controler/Temp monitor that I instaled in my case.(CoolMaster Cool drive 4) that I currentl use to monitor my RAM. However I am currently only monitoring one of the two sticks of RAM. Can I integrate the CoolMaster Cool Dive thing into MBM5?)----answerd Thanx 3: I know that my MOBO can run several more fans than the three that I have listed now(CPU,PWMIC,exhaust). Can I monitor/control the rest of them with MBM5? 4: This is somewhat related to #3. Along with the two GPU temps I mintiond already I also have CPU,PWMIC CHIPset being monitored. (First is the CPU temp that is displayed the core temp or the socket temp?)---answerd Also is there a diagram or an explanation of all the temp sensors on my MOBO and where the are located? And, can I configure MBM5 to monitor these temps? 5: Lastly How do you all keep from having to reinstall all of your drivers and stuff each time you crash real bad and have to re instal windows? I currently have one 160 gig hard drive that I have divided in to four partitions, c)windows 30gig D)everything else 90 gig g)special drive 20 gig(I did this cause I thought this might help with this problem but I have not used it yet) z)secure drive20 gig(againe I I plan to use this so that any thing I save for work can not be accsesed if I end up sharing my main drive over a network.) This works well for me to have every thing allready one the hard drive but I still have to reinstale everything.(I don't have to re-download any apps) but as I said this just dosn't seem smart, and I figure you all probly do this a difrent way. any suggestions? Well, I know this is alot and I don't really expect any one person to try and answer everything. Though I am sure some of you, (like Angry_Games and several others could) If you have any advice on any of the questions I would really appriciate it. Thanks, Noob ps sorry about the spelling I need to download the program that is required.(Iactualy tried already and acidentely closed this post,I had to re-write this whole thing!) so i'll do it latter! AnUnknownSource Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 1: don't have an answer for that... 2: The memory and sockets don't have temp sensors, you'll have to continue using your external sensor. 3: Not Sure, not keen on using the motherboard headers for my fans anyway. 4: The CPU sensor is the socket temperature. You'll need CoreTemp to get the temperature reading from the core(s)... 5: You could get Windows installed with all your most commonly used programs and drivers, and make an exact image of your first partition using Ghost or a similar tool. Search via Google for "make your own recovery disk" to get a few results. I read an article in MaximumPC a few years ago on how to do this. If everything gets screwy, just pop your disk in and put things back to exactly the way they were when you made the disk or image. Welcome to the Street :-)
TheNewGuy 2 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Thanx for you reply. I did download core temp and I can see the diffrence now. The bios seems to display the core temp as well. However I have set the pc health setting to turn of the CPU fan if the temp falls below 25c and when my pc is idle the fan often turns of completly. And MBM5 is showing a temp of 25c when it does. and core temp is displaying 30c.Also at full load both core and socket temps equalize at 36-39c. Do other people notice this same phenomenon. it would seem that the bios setting for fan control is actualy refering to socket temp, even though it displays the core temp. and my CPU cooler needs a temp of 35c before it reaches its maximum heat transfer efficency. And the core and socket will never be the same temp at idle, even with he best cooler set up.
