Best I could find on the 8800gts 320mb was $220.00 shipped

I meant you can get the 79xx's at a nice price point. $220 isn't bad for a 8800gts though.

Thank's to all of you for your comments and thoughts.

I went with the PNY Verto GeForce 7900 GTX Limited Edition with all access. included.

The reason I bought the 7900GTX is that it is a proven OC'er. MickeyMouse

from over at ocX used it to set the 3DMark06 single card record awhile back.

Stock clocks on it are 675/820. on water it's been running @ 775/900 100% stable of course YMMV. And it comes with a cool case and tools.:)

what? doesn`t the 7950 have 2 gpus?! it's a totally different card people!

it could be a downclocked 7950 GX2, but surely not a downclocked 7900GTX. stop comparing apples and tomatoes.

7950GX2 does.

7950GT doesnt :)

from a comparison between the 7900GT & 7950GT at Techspot:

The 7950GT core has been boosted by 100MHz for a total 550MHz. The memory frequency has been slightly increased from 1320MHz on the 7900GT, to 1400MHz for the 7950GT. Both feature the same amount of vertex and pixel shader units, and are designed using a 90nm process. The GeForce 7900GT was limited to 256MB of onboard memory, whereas the 7950GT features 512MB. Other than this there are no further enhancements found on the 7950GT, or in other words it is a mere enhancement of the 7900GT

The 7900GTX has a core speed of 600MHz and a mem speed of 1600MHz(800Mhz each way) and is built on the 90nm process

also at techspot:

A look under the 7950GT’s hood proves it to be an under-clocked 7900GTX for the most part

The 7950GT is definitely better than a 7900GT, but not better than a 7900GTX... performance wise...

Good Choice catkicker

I guess I'll have to quote you back. Were talking about a 7950GT not a tomatoe.

Reading is fundamental  To the original poster - nice choice on the GTX. They are proven OCers, where GTs and GTOs are wild cards in that department. I got lucky with my GTOs (the price was right), but even with the memory running at 818, or so - that's not even close to my buddy's 900+ on his pair of BFG GTXers. Happy clocking :)
