CrAsHnBuRnXp Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Just a quick question. When in Smart Guardian, it shows the CPU temp, PWMIC temp, and the chipset temp. What exactly is the PWMIC temp? What does it go to? It is constantly over 50C all the time and I need to know what to look at.

CrAsHnBuRnXp Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 On a similar note, how tall do you suppose the chipset fan is? Im looking to replace it but my 8800GTS almost rests on top of it.

ollietwinam Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Evercool VC-RE Same height, if not a tad smaller than the stock one. Lowers temps by 5-10C
radodrill Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 PWMIC = Pulse Width Modulation Integrated Circuit This is the collection of mosfets, inductors, etc. (near the CPU socket) that regulate the voltages for the MB. On some MBs it has a heatsink on it. If you're worried about temps you can position a case fan to blow air across it.
THEnumber337 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Anyone? I don't know how tall it is but I recommend the Thermalright HR-05 SLI. I have mine running completely passive and it works great.

bldegle2 Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Will it be enough to clear my 8800GTS? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> you can spin the HR-05 180* so as to clear the vid card. depending on the vid cards cooling one may have to manipulate the cooler a bit. BTW, HR-05 with a slow speed 70MM x 15MM fan and some thermal paste, pretty darn good, water is the only way to get better temps.. the VC-RE works very well too, i have had one on my rig for a year now, works perfectly, much better than the stock one, which WILL fail, sooner, more than later... laterz, baldy
CrAsHnBuRnXp Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Okay. Im starting to get a bit pissed off right now. I am running Vista Premium x64 and I installed the new version of Smart Guardian to monitor temps and control fan speed. The release date was just a few days ago. However, when I try to lower the fan speed on my CPU (becuase its too loud and lowering the RPM's makes it go away obvoiusly) it doesnt do anything. Anyone have any ideas? Having the same problem on vista ultimate x64, tried various re-installs, to no avail. Also tried Speedfan but was only able to change the chipset fan RPM and not the CPU fan. CrackJiver Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 I read here that Vista overrides some of the Bios setting and controlls the fan speed itself by default. I think that there was a way to turn it off though.
