Driver Support for the 8800 GTX/GTS

Recommended Posts

How are the latest drivers for XP for these cards. For a bit, it seemed not so good, have the drivers matured yet?

They work fine in XP, the latest ones provide a pretty solid boost in 3dmark05 as well. Dunno about Vista.

Thanks Techno. I'm more concerned with game performance. I should have been more clear. I'm more concerned with game performance at high resolutions, such as 1920x1200. As far as benchmark performance, the only thing I use BM's for is stability testing. After that, high BM scores don't matter much to me. For me, it's all about onscreen graphics quality at high resolution.

I have 2 8800GTX's, I run every game I have in there highst resoulutions and they look awsome on them at high resoulutions.

What system are you looking at setting up ?

The latest drivers have worked out good for me with the system on the sig with an 8800GTX. I play all my games at 1920x1200....at least the ones that give me that option on video settings. These latest drivers have been running really good on my system....I have been playing lots of Stalker and Dark Messiah.

uneedav8/Magel, what specific drivers are you running?

Over at guru3d, the drivers are up to 16x.xx. I was going to try the 160.03's on my current set-up. I'm still using the 91.47's & using XP, but I was curious as to how the drivers for the 88xx's were. There's still a bit of caterwailing around certain forums about driver support for the 88xx cards. I'm also thinking maybe selling the GX2 and getting either the 8900 or a 8800 GTX as final upgrade for my rig in the next few months. I was also thinking of switching over to water cooling as well. I figured that after those 2 final upgrades/projects, I be done with my current rig. Wait a bit for the Penryn or whatever comes next, but ride my rig a bit longer. It still gets the job done quite well.

I play all my games on a single GTX at 1920x1200 with minimal issues...some games can be maxed and playable, others needs to be turned down a bit from the max but they still look great...honestly the only problem I had with this card was with the original drivers that didn't do shaders correctly in Oblivion, since then it works great.

I'm not using the very latest, mine came out sometime in April.

@Ghosi

There is a thread about some new beta drivers for Vista, the 160.03's. It seems that SLI may be a posibility with these drivers. A few with 7950 GX2's have posted over there and the thread is just starting because the 160.03 beta Vista drivers were just released today. Do not confuse these with the 160.03's that were released for XP 32 bit about a week ago.
