wildman2 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Can air conditioner heat exchanger's be used instead of heater cores or rads like the Blackice. Not still hook up as a a.c. unit just the heat exchanger.
radodrill Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Automotive or A/C heat exchangers Could be used; but the HW Labs Black Ice radiators are made with significantly thinner tubes and fins to provide significantly higher performance. wildman2 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 How well would that setup perform?I have a rad slightly smaller than that one.
radodrill Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 How well would that setup perform?I have a rad slightly smaller than that one. Might need 2 pumps in series to provide enough pressure head for that loop. And certainly a lot of fans. It would work; but IMHO it's easier to work with RADs designed for PC applications. HITandRUN Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 The fans would make a lot of noise! You could try to run it passive and see how much heat you can get rid off without any fans!
wildman2 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I've lost about 50 % of my hearing so the noise may not bother me at all.The wife on the other it may....
radodrill Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I've lost about 50 % of my hearing so the noise may not bother me at all.The wife on the other it may.... If that's the case then why not use a box fan for it; just have to make a shroud for it.
wildman2 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I have saved the fan shroud from the ac unit.Would that work?It has a 10.5 to 11.0 inch opening do they make dc fans that big?Just figured it out,it would be a 266mm fan.Would a 250mm be enough? The front of the case will have 3 140mm fans blowing to the back.Took some measurements and if modify the shroud it will fit 4 140mm fans.
