mrbadnback Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 First off you have to read the thread I started with "Swapping CPU'S" because most of the info is there. I swapped out a Opteron148 for a Athlon64 4000+. I reset the CMOS with the jumper installed the 4000+ and went into the BIOS and set optimized defaults saved and exited. I booted into windows and everything was working like it should with no problems. I did the work that I had to do for some people on my system then checked out a few things on the web with still no problems. Then I decided to play a game and thats where the problem lies. Once in the game the system froze. I rebooted and tried another game and the same thing happened. I know its not a heat problem since the system never went above 38c even while in the game. So after that I reset the CMOS again with the jumper and reinstalled the 148. I booted into the BIOS and reset my 2.94GHz OC thru Reloaded and booted into windows. Once I got into windows I could play the games with no problem. What could be causing the 4000+ to freeze once I get into a game? I'm stumpted! uneedav8 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 With the 4000 installed after a clear CMOS and loaded optimized defaults. Check the CPU and memory voltages and make sure they are where they should be. I have had it load some values that are way off from where they should be at defaults. Also I would install the AMD cpu driver just for the hell of it for the 4000.
