shatteredsteel Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 So I come in to work today to open the shop. Everything seemed like another boring saturday at first, then I got into the sales floor half the freaking roof collapsed, and I don't know who to be pissed at, the roofers who have taken 5 days to do a 5' x 10' section of the mall, or mall maintennence who gave me ZERO help in cleaning it up. This is alot of damage, I'll upload the pics later tonight if I'm done cleaning, but just so you get an idea of what I'm talking about, there are 10 1' x 2' ceiling tiles on the ground, plus the water (which has seeped into the lighting fixtures in the area). Also there are approximatly $1500 worth of products that I've picked out of the fallen tiles that still need to be tested. And you may be thinking to yourself, $hit happens...I would agree with you if this was the first time that its happened, but this is the 5th time that WE'VE had to replace the ceiling, and products ruined by the neglect of the owner of this mall. And our shop isn't even the worst, a Vanity clothing store which is next door to us has had about 90% of thier ceiling removed by water and has lost well over $3000 dollars of merchandise. Sorry abut the rant, but to me this is ridiculous. Thanks for letting me vent...now its off to get the water out of the fixtures so there isn't a fire. wardog Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Damn. The place doesn't look all that old either, judging by the architecture. http://www.horngrenmanagement.com/central_square_mall.htm
red930 Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 You will have to make a claim against the property owner's policy to get any money. Just let him know that your lawyer will contact him to initiate the proceedings. This will normally put him into damage-control mode because the last thing he wants or needs is his insurance rates going up for the whole property. Documentation is key to getting your damages compensated. Lots of pics and save everything.
shatteredsteel Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 We have already started, luckily I was able to run home and get my digital cam. so I have them saved on my external HDD waiting to be used. And the mall is 20 years old at least.
Guest Pyro Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Wow hopefully the mall owner will get his act cleaned up before customers and stores leave, then he will be feeling something. Maybe a little dent in his wallet....

shatteredsteel Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Slight update: We have gotten a payment for the goods that were damaged, and will be receiving new ceiling tiles. Which is a good thing considering another 5 went out in our stock room due to a leak that we didn't find earlier. The light fixture was emptied (by me). and everything seems to be on track again. Also the roof is being re-tarred this week so that should curb any further leaks.
charlie22911 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 thats good, glad everything is getting sorted
dr_bowtie Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 re-taring is only a temporary band-aid.....that just means there are cracks in the membrane and once the tar shrink the crack will re-open and the leak will be worse....nice... ReelFiles Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Absolutely right, Terry. There'll be problems again down the road.
