justin131 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Ok, Here is my situation. I have: - OCZ GXS 600W PS - 250GB HDD - LG DVD Burner - Floppy - 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 4-4-4-15 (on the way) - XFX 7950GT (on the way soon) - Half of a water cooling setup (only need CPU block and accessories) I just sold my DFI NF590, my 3800 X2, my Corsair DDR2 800, and my 7600GT. So all I need is a CPU and a MoBo. What should I get... another AM2 setup or a C2D setup? And depending on which I settle on, what CPU and what MoBo? Thanks, Justin
ollietwinam Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 C2D for sure Either the E4300 or E6300, and not sure about mobo, lots of people here can help with that though
Kingfisher Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Assuming you are working with around $300 you made from your sales, You would do well going the Intel C2D route with a E4300 paired with an Asus P5B-E. I'd give you Newegg linkage but I can't browse their site for some reason and ZZF has better prices as of late.
justin131 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Actually I got $450. How about a DFI 975X/G Infinity and an e6300? Good plan?
Voltes-5 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Actually I got $450. How about a DFI 975X/G Infinity and an e6300? Good plan? That'll work!
OsamaBinAthlon+ Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 How about the DFI P965 with that processor? Are you gonna wait for price cuts?
Branjo Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 C2D all the way bro. Dont rule out the E4300 or next week there will be an E4400 these will OC like crazy and the E6320 and E6420 will be available with 4Mb L2 cache. just make sure you wait for the price cuts and put the money you will save into a nice Mobo

Branjo Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I bought a DS3 for budget sake, but given the extra spare cash I would have liked the DQ6. I just plain dont like ASUS, never have.
CPDMF Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I never cared for Asus in the past. Only decent board I had from them in the past was the A7N8X-E Deluxe, but the P5N32-E SLI board I have is an outstanding board. The first thing you will need to figure out is what features you need, will you need SLI or Crossfire support in the future, Firewire support, number of PCI slots, RAID, number of sata/pata ports, etc etc. This will help narrow down the boards that are available, then you can read reviews, ask people that own that specific board what they think of it and make an educated purchase. For an e6300 you should be looking at 965 based boards. Although I have busted the 500FSB barrier with my 680i based board. E4300, look into 975, 650i/680i based boards. justin131 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Ok. I will wait for the C2D to go down. The AMD's just dropded significantly so the C2D's shouldnt be far behind. Thanks. Ill probably blow like 300 on a board and get a 4300. I can always get a better chip.
justin131 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Ok. I have decided to get the Gigabyte DS3. I am still not sure which chip to choose. Here are the prices of the chips in my budget to tigerdirect (CAD): e4300 1.8Ghz 2MB - $200 e4400 2.0Ghz 2MB - $233 e6320 1.8Ghz 4MB - $260 e6300 1.8Ghz 2MB - $260 Odd prices but I will have enough for the e6320 tomorrow.
