dpoverlord Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Greetings, I was wondering my floppy drive accesses but no matter what disk I throw into it, I get an error message " unable to format disk. Thinking the floppy drive ( 6 years old) had just crapped out on me I bought a new Mitsumi drive and am getting the same error. This makes me believe that it may not be the floppy drive but instead either the Floppy port or the cable. What recommendations would you give me to trouble shoot this? stepbackjack Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Does your drive appear in the bios?
dpoverlord Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 It appears in Windows Explorer, I know that from memory I will have to double check the system tray icon. I assume it does.
uneedav8 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Try a different cable or make sure the end of the floppy cable that has the cut or the twist to be connected to the floppy and not the MB.

Yeah, sound like the cable is flipped around the wrong way... I've done this 3 or 4 times myself...

dpoverlord Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 I just ran a test and the following occurred: A. Booted into Pc-Dos and did a: I got to the A: drive in DOS and put in a floppy. I did a /dir command and the floppy disks data came up. I then put in a blank floppy and it could not read as I expected. This has to mean the floppy drive itself is ok but that I am somehow not utilizing the right drivers in Windows. Any ideas?
