Random Shutdown

Ok, I finally started working on my machine again. To diagnose the issue I removed all the hardware from the case, and built a test machine on my desk. The test machine consisted of the stock AMD heatsink, motherboard, cpu, memory, and PSU. It booted up fine, and all the temps and voltages looked good. Under load the machine was consuming 120W, according to my power meter. It was running memtest for 3 hours without any errors, and then suddenly the machine shuts down. I then tried to turn it back on, and it would turn on for 1 second before shutting back down again. I tried turning off the PSU, resetting the CMOS, removing the CMOS battery, removing the video card, and finally removing the ram without any success. Every time I turn the machine on, my power meter jumps to 60W (machine runs at 90W idles) before shutting itself down. Does anyone have any ideas on what the issue could be? I believe it is a motherboard issue, since plugging in another PSU after it shuts down doesn't help.

Thanks

Well, suggestions have been made, I would think you would act on them first. A supply can seem ok and not be ok, it can even run another system but not a lanparty if it can't drive the LP.

Your RAM could be your problem, they did tell you that. You are asking people what they think and they ARE telling you.

Try raising your RAM voltage to 2.7, then to 2.8, but NO MORE. I have Micron 5B-F RAM and I have found that mine will reboot if run lower than 2.8. It would seem, from my reading here and there, that the most this RAM needs to go, or should go is about 2.85V. Yes, that shouldn't be the problem, since the RAM is designed for 2.6V IIRC, but it is my experience. Also, it is cool for air to blow on the RAM if possible.

I would also check and perhaps swap all my drive cables, I have had intermittent power supply cable and also IDE cable problems in the past that ruined drives.
