AMD 4200+ Which core?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My father bought a AMD 4200+ X2

The online shop where he bought it sold it as a cpu with Manchester core.

CPU-Z tells me that it's a Toledo core.

The stepping is LCBKE 0643SPMW - ADA4200DAA5CD

Has anyone experience with this cpu stepping?

Alas he won't allow me to OC it.

If it reads Toledo, then the CPU was originally destined to be a chip with 2x1MB cache (so any DC Opteron or an X2 4400/4800). Some of the cache failed QC, and rather than throw it out AMD just disabled the defective parts and made it a Manchester. (You can tell without using CPUz that it's a Toledo by looking at the last two letters of the product ID thingy: CD = Toledo, whereas BV = Manchester if I recall correctly.)

Given what people are receiving I should be receiving an X2 3800 of this stepping on Wednesday from Newegg.. will overclock it and let you know how it goes.

Yes he does know something about computers.

I tried, but for the moment he is satisfied with it as it is.

Considering he (i did build his rig) upgraded from a XP2800+ with FX 5600 video card to a 4200 X2 with XFX 7600 GT/570 video card.

I a few months when he gets used to it i might try to convince him to let me OC it.

There is already a Thermaltake Ruby Orb cooler installed.
